lenovo 3000 c200 not printing black text to canon mp600

Hi this is my first post.

I have had a Lenovo 3000 c200 8922 a26 for about 2 1/2 years that I have had no trouble with until I connected a Canon mp600 multifunction center. I cannot get the printer to print black text. When it prints test sheets it will print color graphics but no text. A text only document will give a blank sheet. The laptop will print normally on an older Canon BJC-2100SP

I also have a built up desktop unit running Ubuntu 8.04. The MP600 functions normally when connected to the desktop unit, it will also print correct copies from the scanner unit.

I was running Debian Lenny on the Lenovo but when this problem occured I installed Windows XP Pro. All the updates from Microsoft have been installed and the latest driver from Canon Aust. (mp600win111ea23.exe). I have upgraded the BIOS to 63ET62WW v1.08.

Attempting to print from the laptop to the desktop will give the same error, also the same when printing in the reverse direction.

I feel I am missing something but have run out of ideas. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lenovo isnt really that great with selling products, and their support isnt great either. Took me a month of being nice, gave up, then one day of using a bit more *persuasive* language to get things moving on a missing part order.

But if you happen to get the think family of products, (and once you get through Lenovo), support through IBM is truly world class.

Ok, I'm officially sick of this.

My computer keeps crashiing, several times a day, taking down everything I have underway. This problem has been reported for over a month and a half and we have yet to see a fix. This is just plain ridiculous and unprofessional.

This should be priority 1 severity 1.

One can only conclude that Lenovo doesn't care about their customers.

Re: T400s solid state drive

Second harddrive is not a cure. I found that if you use Intel X25-M or X18-M then these SSD have MLC memory type. So each cell of memory supports up to 10,000 cycles of writing. This case that hard drive will die in first three or five days for me. Even it will die for regular work of web designer or technical documents writer in a month.

I have got that information from Wikipedia "Solid State Drive" topic from Disadvantages section:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive#cite_note-CWorldLackluster2-37

Then I have opened Wikipedia "Multi-level cell" topic

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-level_cell

The "Multi-Level cell" has section "External links" and link to "What is NAND Flash"

 http://www.micron.com/products/nand/index

reading there:

Our Enterprise NAND is a high-endurance NAND Flash solution. It’s optimized for intensive enterprise storage applications where endurance is the top priority. It far surpasses standard cycle rates, delivering 30,000 WRITE/ERASE cycles for MLC and 300,000 for SLC. And it does it with an ONFI 2.1 synchronous interface.

I think you need to include option to choose HDD 7200RPM 160Gb or greater otherwise it is too risky to lose information or laptop will stop working and information also will be lost.

I have looked at that laptop only because of Moultitouch Screen option. So if I'm not able to get perfect and powerfull laptop for my tasks like ThinkPad T61 with long time of life of harddrive and Moultitouch Screen then I will be persuaded to find other solution but I do not want to do that. I hope we can find solution cause we are all people and good relation to people/clients is guaranty for well-being of business.

Def

I like Lenovo build quality i think its better then dell's. I also liked the solution as they are sending out DVDs with the image , and the extra year of warranty . The only thing that they could work on is the time it took them to arrive to a solution. But over all i will def recommend Lenovo

A "fix" that has to be applied over and over every time it occurs is a temporary patch. It seemed to stay fixed through a reboot, but later it re-occurred. This apparently has been known since 2006. (Our network connection was disabled, and we had to disable the device driver.)

There does not seem to be any way to even tell Lenovo about it.

We are not plugging and unplugging a wired LAN connection since we do not use the wired LAN connection on this computer. I am concerned whether this could affect the horrible problem we are having doing an AD HOC wireless connection to a wireless printer where the computer is supposed to generate a TCP/IP address for the wireless computer.

Hi Spirited Guy... thanks for the interest and for anyone else who wants to help me solve a frustrating mystery...

I have tried putting the HDD back and rebooting using the hard reset.... the same thing happens. Unless I am holding down the ESC key during the power up just prior to the flash screen saying "LENOVO", the screen and keyboard freezes. If I hold the ESC key down ( and continue to hold it) as the S10E powers up and displays LENOVO, the computer rapidly beeps until I release the ESC (and may beep a few seconds longer). While it is still beeping, I release the ESC key and press the F2 button which, after the beeping stops, shifts the screen to a POST routine (it is very difficult, because of the speed of the POST to see what is happening as it shifts immediately from the POST into the CMOS. I have full access to the CMOS to make and save changes and then exit it. The computer will appear to try to reboot only to freeze again on the splash screen. If I hit the ESC key as it is rebooting, I can again start the POST and by hitting F2 reenter the CMOS. Essentially, I am making a loop. There are no password locks on either bios or anything else...it appears to be completely clear. I am not aware of any problems with the HDD either...I have hooked it up to my desktop and been able to access it using a USB enclosure. I still think it is a bios problem, but it is really frustrating keep freezing at the splash screen and only be able to move beyond that with the ESC key, F2 key sequence. I have tried the F12 key also during ESC key sequence but get nothing because of holding down the FN key to access the F12 key... I am not sure the bios are reading it since there is apparently no way to access control of turning that on or off in the CMOS (that I am aware of).

Well...that is about it in a nutshell... surely someone has encountered this anomally and cured it??? Also the bios version I have been able to determine is 14CN57WW... the model number is 41872PU.

Thanks in advance for the interest and the help! It is 10:00PM in Texas...I'll check back for responses in about an hour or so...

(Fu#$%^) HP is is charging $4 for the upgrade, all though they probably slapped the upgrade on the purchase price on the purchase price. I would have paid the extra $$$$ for better support options. I didnt know at time lenovo was ranked last on customer support by Consumer reports dot com. I Paid alot of money for this laptop, they shouldnt be racking me for more money. The issue with the video card.....are you referring to the "ATI" card where it is alittle loose and you can push on it to get a picture (known issue with T40)? If so, I tried this and no luck.

Let me know what else I can do...I want to save the laptop by all means. Try getting a PCMCIA USB card and running everything from there...

That does not include shooting the messanger.

Good luck.

I purchased my ThinkPad T-500 on June 6, 2009 so I missed the date by 20 days. Anyone else hear about getting a free upgrade that close to the official date? Any deals at all for us who were so close to June 26th?

I installed a PCIe video card into my ThinkCentre and my desktop isn't very happy now. Any suggestions for good video cards that will work well with a ThinkCentre M51? The video card I am currently using is a Sapphire Radeon HD 4550 (512 MB DDR3).

Thanks!
