I posted a message here a couple of weeks ago that the fan was making a loud noise when the system boots.
Now it is making the same noise at other times, but not quite as loud.
It seems to be getting worse.
Someone suggested it is a fan bearing.
I would rather not make a warranty claim for this if it is simple to fix. Would this be a simple fix for someone not experience working with hardware?
Do I risk my working on the machine myself.

Hello mate,
It's quite easy to do. Have a look in the hmm there : http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thi
Just be aware that changing this part by yourself might void the warranty.

There's actually two fans in there. The processor fan, which is listed as a CRU which you can replace yourself without voiding the warranty. Then there's the system fan which is not a CRU which will void the warranty if you replace it yourself.
So, you would have to know which fan is making the noise and then determine whether you can replace it yourself without voiding anything.
They're both side by side in there.
