Weird Windows Freeze

Hi

Can someone here safe my life. My PC was fine and now freezes. It boots, gives me a blank screen with a couple of boot options (recovery and XP) and then freezes. I mounted it as an external drive to another machine and ran chkdsk but this didn't seem to do anything. Any ideas?

Can you hit F8 when booting and boot in safe mode? Could be something loading when Windows is booting or a virus. If you can boot in safe mode, you can run msconfig (start>run) and go to the Startup tab. You can uncheck everything you know isn't needed. Apps put lots of garbage in here. Then restart and see if it will boot.
