I have over 400 junk M58's (7373-A34) that were ordered without a parallel port. Somebody in procurement can't read. Anyways, I see that there is a 25 pin connector on the Panda L-IQ45 mainboard. How do I enable the port to allow parallel printers to be used with these PC's? I assume it is possible since the plug is on the mainboard.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Mike

The M58 requires a parallel port cable to be installed. Order part number 43N9022 for the cable. You can see a diagram of the motherboard and a description of this part in the Hardware Maintenance Manual on the Lenovo support website. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/documen

Thank you for the response. After spending time on the telephone with Lenovo and them telling me it was not possible to resolve this issue, I finally found a solution that (mostly) worked. I purchased a 25 pin cable w/adapter bracket and installed it. After much headache, I finally figured out that the printer must be connected and powered on to configure the port correctly in the BIOS. This works as long as the printer remains connected to the port. If the LPT cable ever becomes disconnected, the settings disappear. I will deal with that I guess.
Who would think that computers would be shipped without a parallel port installed but available on the mainboard. I would hope that a BIOS update will become available in the very near future to turn this port on permanently so I do not have to keep resetting the parallel port in the future...just a thought Lenovo (if you are reading any of this)
