Hi all, I'm new to forum. have looked on IBM site, refers me to lenovo. I have looked for posts for this one. I have a thinkcentre s50 8183KMJ, running XP Home ed. when setting up recovery (ultra),the wizard says it has the option of using a USB Hdrive, but wont allow me to select it in options ( 2 of the 3 avail button point blanked out). Only allows to a drive partition.I would like to put my recovery backup onto an external 1TB drive . By my reading in posts this feature has its problems, is it worth using it?
any ideas?

It's not bad if it's set up properly. However, in my experience, the documentation is not comprehensive and assumes a great deal of knowledge.
For example: you can create recovery disks and/or backups on USB hard-drives or optical drives - but, in order to use these disks, you must be able to boot from the same USB drive. Including the USB drive in the boot order or sequence is done within setup (press F1, soon after switching the computer on).
I'm sure that many people only find this out right at the crucial moment when they need to use the disk(s) and can't because the option is not selectable (because they haven't included the USB drive in the boot sequence).
Hope this helps.
Here's a suggestion for the authors of the Thinkvantage packages: please improve the documentation
