I have a ThinkCentre S50 8183-TSG that came with a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 processor which apparently runs at a clock speed of 2.8 GHz. Recently I installed a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 processor but to my surprise this also runs at 2.8 GHz. In the BIOS main menu it is also stated as
The same for the system properties overview under the Configuration screen in Windows XP. How can I set the processor speed to the actual 3.2 GHz? (Or any other value for that matter....).
Thanks in advance,
Hans

Anyone? I can't imagine that this problem never showed up before. The S50 8183 series has been supplied with 3.2 GHz processors anyway so there should be a key to change the processor speed. Please help!

Make sure you have the latest BIOs installed For your machine it should be 2AJY51, the files are located HERE
If you are certain you have the latest BIOs installed, enter the BIOs setup and choose LOAD DEFAULTS on the last page. Save the settings, and then reboot. Your new CPU should show up properly.
If it still doesn't show up properly, you might have an odd S-Spec on the CPU that is not supported by the 8183.

Thanks for your reply, this is useful information.
The BIOS version is 2AKT51ANL, which contains the 2AJY51 file that you are referring to. On the S-Spec, I have to look this up on the CPU when I get home. Can you point me to a list of S-Specks that are supported by the 2AJY51 BIOS version? In this way I might be able to find another P4/3.2 GHz CPU that actually does work at 3.2 GHz in my system.
Thanks again,
Hans
