Because I own both R61 and R500 Thinkpads, I noticed this problem with those models first. But a quick scan of the R400, T400, R500, W500 and other models showed that the problem is more wide spread.
The Vista versions (both 32 bit and 64-bit) of CSS V8.21 on on the R500 and R61 driver marice pages are 3 years out of date. The matrices lists separate 32-bit and 64-bit versions, but both are version 8.21.0006.00 with release dates of 09 Mar 2009!
There is no Windows XP version listed at all in the current driver matrices of both the R500 and R61.
The current version is 8.21.0023 with a release date of 09 Feb 2012 and supports both 32-bit as well as 64-bit version Vista as well as Windows XP 32-bit.
A quick examination of the extract from the ThinkVantage downloads page shows this. It even shows that the current entries for Windows 7 are also out of date, as of today.
It is interesting to note that the RSS feed for both the R500 and R61 Thinkpads do not list these updates.
