Could links in a post be auto-converted to REAL links automatically?

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.6 and when I select bold text, italicized text, underlined or strikethrough text it ........Well it seems to be OK now.
What it was doing was that if I bolded a word, all the text I typed after that would be bold and I could not turn it off. I had to go back, select the text and un-bold it. The same with italicized, underline and strikethrough. I was sure it was doing it before but it seems to be working correctly for me now.

I know all that, but normally (that is: in most forums and most software like Word) highligting text and clicking the B button (while you type) changes just that highlighted text and puts in the <b> or [b] before that text and  </b> or [/b] after the highlighted text and you continue with normal text.
This being an On/Off switch on this forum is a bit confusing.
The URL-switch works different as well.
Guess you'll get used to it, but the above is not standard.
