"ADVANCED" Search?

Relatively new to this forum and have been trying to use the SEARCH function with limited success.  I saw a post directing a new user to used the ADVANCED search on the forum main page.  The only "advanced"? function I found was to use a keyword in COMMUNITY, CATEGORY or USER sections.  A couple search tries seemed to produce the same results in either Community or Category.  Users, produced no hit and I assume that only searches user names.

I'm not sure what Category and Community differences are, but is there no boolean logic operator available to use for search terms?  For example to use OR, AND, NOT or use PHRASE operators to search on keywords or phrases?

Re: "ADVANCED" Search?

Welcome to the forum!

Are you able to get to the advanced search functions at all?  To get there, just click on the Search button and then on the Advanced link next to the Search button on the resulting page.

With our recent forum software update, Advanced search has been changed somewhere (and not for the better, in my opinion), however there is some limited functionality (see below) that may help you refine your searches:

Re: "ADVANCED" Search?

Thanks JaneL.  Shortly after I posted I discovered if I did a 'basic' search that when the results showed up I was then given the option for an 'advanced' search.  Kinda wierd way to have to get to an advanced search, but whatever I guess.

Also wierd that I posted my question on the IDEA SYSTEMS forum.  I tried to go back and edit to say I found the answer to my question, but couldn't find my post listed.  I assumed some moderator was screening posts and it would probably show up later.  After several hours and no post showing in the group I submitted it to, I finally looked up by my author id and sure enough it was there....but buried in a HOUSEKEEPING topic down in the SPECIAL INTEREST Forum!  Would have been nice if someone would have mentioned they moved it!

Sorry, that was me.  Sometimes I forget to check the box to leave a breadcrumb.

Re: "ADVANCED" Search?

The only reason I mentioned the forum switch was hoping that some moderator would notice it caused an inconvenience.  Thanks for admitting it was you; a lot of people wouldn't have.  Since you did step up, I know you are conciencious and respectful of your contributors!
