Chiclet keyboards allow laptop designers to make a thinner laptop, because the chiclet keyboard itself has less overall height. So if a laptop comes with a chiclet keyboard, and you try to replace the chiclet keyboard with a traditional ThinkPad keyboard, then the keys will strike the screen when you close the display, which will scratch the display. At least, that's my understanding.
