hello there!
I live in Israel. I will be in San Francisco, CA later this month (as some conference speaker
. No secret that the prices in US are much more attractive, and my eye is definitely on a customized X61 laptop. However, one of the requirements is that the warranty should also work in Israel. Here is the place where I could have received a simple answer: yes or no, but the answer I've got from the local (israeli) Lenovo official representative was: "it depends".
"Depends on what?" - I've asked. "We can't tell you. Please contact the reseller." I've said that the reseller is the official Lenovo website (yet I've been in a call with an official Lenovo representative). "Please look for a support phone number on the site".
Hence, my question is:
How can I order a configuration so that I'll be able to fix my laptop in Israel? I do know that in general X61 are sold in Israel (unlike SL300, for example). As always, israeli representatives are very happy to provide all the info about the local resellers, but not the valuable info I am looking for.
thanks
Alexander

Alexander, welcome to the forum,
Please refer to Mark's advice in the FAQs. You might like to search the forum for "IWS", you will find lots of threads.

thanks a lot, guys!
I'll harsh thru those links. They are helpful. And... I'll try to read all the sticky posts in the forum before asking another question.
Anyway, as a constructive crytics, I do think that the warranty-related info should persist on shop.lenovo.com - so that there will be no need in blog/forum clarifications, phone calls to service etc. Flights become cheaper, continents become closer and we all live in the same world ![]()

Hello, nonny!
Well - read it all (including the comments). Surprizingly, all the Israel-related questions were left there un-answered. Any ideas/comments, please?

hello, Andy!
Also, followed through all the instructions (the "model number" is called "part number" and it is given only upon completion of the laptop customization process - just before the checkout).
Entered the IWS site and discovered that 7675 model can be fixed nearly everywhere in the world, but not in Israel. How come? Lots of people here have X61's. And they _are_ supported! Any ideas could be welcomed. (I'll try to copy this reply to that post too).
Thanks
Alexander

well, just to keep the thread completed:
X61 (probably just like the other Lenovo) laptops has different flavors. The flavors can vary in configuration and are designated by 4-digits "model numbers" (those that appear like "7675-CTO" when you see your shopping card before the checkout on shop.lenovo.com site).
Another (very pitty) thing about those flavors is that certain flavors are supported in certain countries. For example: 7673 is supported in Israel and Hong Kong and has a BlueTooth, while 7675 does not have a BlueTooth, is supported in US but is NOT supported in Israel. This is a sad mess, and only to find that answer I've spent like 4 days researching thru the Internet.
After all, I do like the product (ThinkPad X61), since it perfectly suites my needs. I do want to pay a reasonable price for it (but not the doubled here is Israel - and I am not talking about taxes).
My case is the one amongs others (http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id

If you can get a cheaper machine in USA, you might as well get it, if you ever run into trouble just send it back to USA for warranty purpose if you ever need it. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You should weigh up which one is more important warranty or price....

Purchasing, service and warranty are IMO the best ingrediens for the perfect cake ![]()
Sending back to USA is not a problem (I mean the price of it), but the downtime. Also, there is a 7673 model (of X61) that is sold (and serviced) in Israel, but not in US. Why cause such a hassle, while advertising IWS (worldwide warranty), which Lenovo really cannot provide?

@wjli2
In addition, there are companies that have not so brilliant products, but they are able to manage the real international warranty with much less exceptions.
In general, as the thread becomes less and less informative, my only aim would be just to raise up the problem. Perhaps, one day it will be solved to a mutual profit of Lenovo and its traveling customers.
