TouchPad problem

[ Edited ]

When I press Fn and F8 I get "To use UltraNav Utility, please enable both TrackPoint and touch pad from BIOS Setup Utility." TouchPad does not exist in BIOS. I reinstalled the UltraNav Driver and Utility. No luck.

The Device Manager has PS/2 TrackPoint listed but not touchpad.

It seems there no place where I can enable the TouchPad. Personally I only use the nub, but would like to have the option of the TouchPad for others that may use my laptop.

This is beginning to upset me... I was so proud being the owner of a ThinkPad. Now friends with $300 laptops laugh at my purchace which was 4 times the price.

Re: TouchPad problem

durian,

you now have three different threads about different problems. In none of the threads do you mention which system you have, which OS you have or whether or not you have the Lenovo pre-installed image or a self installed OS.

Without this type of information members will have difficulty in understanding the problems you are experiencing and therefore not necessarily be in a position to offer advice and assistance.

Andy

Andy, I'm sorry about that.

I created three separate threads so it's more problem specific and focused. If I reposted in my original thread or created a generic thread, I feared those with specific solutions to these problems might overlook it. My goal is to diagnose whether it's something I can solve here because I really don't want to send it back for a fifth time.

ThinkPad T410 2516CTO

On hard drive that came with the laptop:

Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit "Lenovo pre-installed image"

Zenwalk 7.0 "self-installed"

openSUSE 11.4 64-bit "self-installed"

New SATA I threw in:

Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit "Lenovo pre-installed image"

Re: TouchPad problem

since your touchpad & fingerprint reader & bluetooth are not working I would remove the keyborad & plamrest bezel to ensure they are plug in they all use the same plug I believe

Re: TouchPad problem

I should have said that all three use the same plug from the plamrest bezel to the motherborad

Re: TouchPad problem

Thanks for the reply GMAC-R60. Wow I wouldn't have guessed the Bluetooth would use the same plug. I assumed it was just a card that slid in to the motherboard.

If Lenovo doesn't offer a better solution and it would not void the warranty, I will seriously follow up on your advice.

Re: TouchPad problem

I think the palmrest is a customer replaceable unit, so removing and replacing it wouldn't void your warranty.

Re: TouchPad problem

[ Edited ]

Thanks GMAC-R60 & ColonelONeill

I was going to do that but first I wanted approval from the caseworker assigned to my laptop. Don't want to inadvertently void the warranty on a technicality. I left a voicemail stating the problems 7 days ago (5 business days) and asked her to call me. Haven't heard back yet. Guess there isn't a rule to promptly return calls.

So now i'm no longer content of living with the defective left speaker and fixing the TouchPad, fingerprint reader and Bluetooth myself.
