Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

Hi,

I have a similar issue with weak Remote Desktop Connection via wifi, even after I installed the new driver. Have you had any luck with yours?

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

I had the slow wifi connection issue. The connection would slow down to less than 1mbit just a very short distance (ca 5m) from our router.

My equipment is Asus RT-AC56U and Lenovo Yoga 13 late 2012 with the realtek wifi chip.

The "solution" for me was to set the router Wireless Mode to "N only" (from "Auto") in the Wireless submenu.

Hope this helps someone else, we've been ripping our hair out over this.

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

Hi,

I had WiFi problems too with very poor connectivity speeds and it was almost driving me mad. I then read somewhere that the channels in the router should be set to 6,7 or 14 as far as I recall, but I also read that a firmware update could help.

Today I then updated the firmware in my Zyxel router and guess what, my Yoga WiFi now works perfectly.

The old Zyxel router firmware version was from 2008 and I got an update that was from 2011 and it made an incredible difference.

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

My first road trip with the Yoga. Constantly dropped wifi connections at my office. Updated bios, updated network drivers, changed power/state settings and it made little difference.

Now I'm in the airport and my iPhone/ipad have strong connections to the wifi network and the Yoga won't even see it or in the one case the network showed up the signal was too weak to use.

Fortunately, I'm within my 15 day return privileges with Best Buy. Have to say I'm going to wait this issue out or see if I can find the Intel version of the wifi card.

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

I thought I should give an overview of my situation.

I have a Yoga 13 that seemed to have the wifi issue. It was connected to a Linksys E3000 802.11n wifi router. I would get aweful internet speeds and had a very poor connection no matter where I was. Download speeds would max out at about 60KB/s (My internet subscription is 1.5Mbps or 150KB/s). Obviously this is aweful. All my other devices would get a much a faster connection. Even my 2 year old Galaxy Nexus would get a connection twice as fast at the same distance from the router. I tried all kinds of drivers and setting configurations which had zero effect on the problem.

Eventually I got fed up and made the jump to buy a new router. I got an Asus RT-N66R router. It's a dual band 900Mbps router. Problem Solved. Perfect connection. Ethernet-like speeds. If I remember correctly, my old Linksys router was an 802.11n Draft 1.0 router while the new Asus router is Draft 2.0. I'm not sure if that's the reason why but I do know that my problem is solved. This incompatibility between the router and wifi card in the laptop is very strange but I'm just relieved that it's gone.

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

We just got two Yoga 13s a few days ago.  It was imemdiately obvious that we were having intermittent internet connections behind our D-Link 8255 router, both with wifi and with hardwired via  USB3.0 adapter.

I finally called Lenovo,  before seeing these postings.  The support tech was insistent that it was rthe QOS settings in my router, despite my attempts to expain to him (1) that our Yogas are having the same problems at **different** times, (2) that we have no problems with hardwired connections from our Sony Google TV, and (3) that we have no problems with our two cellphones on wireless -- all to the same router.

So, Lenovo support does not even know how to search their own forums!?  Pathetic.

I can easily returnt eh Yogas to Costco, but I would rather they work out.  Has anyone contacted support to get a new Intel card -- at least that might help the wireless problems, but still leaves the hardwired problem fishing for a solution?

[ Edited ]

@ingber;

I didn't know a compatible Intel card (WiFi/BT) was available for the Yoga series. Which model/type are you referring to?

As to your problems with the D-Link router; I tried 4 different routers before settling on a Netgear R6300 which gives me an OK connection / speed. So there is definitely compatibility issues with some or many routers (the notion of QoS is laughable though).

As much as the R6300 has solved many issues for me, there still remains problems of reduced speed when I stream audio via Bluetooth (A2DP), so I would definitely be interested if there is an alternative to the Realtek card

I saw this on

but I have no idea if this is a viable replacement.

Re: yoga 13 wifi issues

OK, I had missed that posting. Might be worth digging a bit on that one.

FYI there is an independent forum for the Yoga at http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/640537-ideapad-yoga-print.html?pp=50 but it's bit messy
