Motherboard CPU upgrade?

I want to upgrade my K210's CPU from a pentium dualcore 1.6 to AROUND a core 2 duo 3.0. My uncle (No-it-all PC guy) says that I should check the MOBO's capacity for CPU's and if it could handle "good" CPU's. Has anybody upgraded to anything simialar to my situation?  If so, was everyting A-OK? Please share any insight you might have.

Here is a similar thread. The user upgraded to an E5200. I'm confident you'd be able to go with a higher clocked Core 2 Duo as long as you understand the possible limitations placed [i.e. chipset, BIOS]
