Remove MaCfee security

Hello all, my computer came with 12 days of MaCfee security, and I use Avast. About every hour, a box comes up telling me to renew, or my computer could die, and I will do anything to get this usless program off of my computer. I tried Control Panel uninstall, but it didn't work.
