A1 tablet dropped ... should I just throw it out?

I dropped my A1 tablet from about 3ft onto tile flooring (doh!). The unit looks to be alive, but now the touch screen doesn't work anymore (useless). I see a small blob of what looks like leaked fluid covering a section of the screen, though you don't really notice it in most lights. Is it ruined?

This is a long shot, but you might try going into recovery (holding down volume down and power when turning on) and choosing the "touch calibration" option by using the volume keys to scroll and the power button to select.

This might work if the drop affected something so that the calibration is only off - if there's any other damage it's not going to work, but its worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion ... I tried it but got a "touch calibration failed" message after about 15 seconds.

Time for the scrap heap?

I imagine a repair, if possible, would cost more than the $200 I paid for the tablet.

I really thought the "magnesium roll case" would make this unit more durable. I guess 3 feet onto tile was just too much.

Hold on ... I tried it again, and while the touch screen isn't as fluid as it once was, it does work to some degree now ... maybe all is not lost?

Are you having an issue with it registering multiple phantom touches when you're touching the screen? You can see if this is happening if you install a program like multitouch tester - it'll show you where it thinks the screen's being touched.

The touch calibration worked after the second try. It still says that it failed, but the tablet works fine now.

Now if you could only tell me how to get it to connect to to the Intel My Wifi or other hotspot software.

I can't get it to connect to my hp win 7 laptop and actually use the hp internet connection.

If you didn't do anything like dropping the tablet to cause that to happen, then I believe that yours is probably defective. It does seem to have been a relatively common problem in the past for early A1s. 

I think that you should contact Lenovo to see if they'll replace it under warranty.

I take it your A1 works on other networks? I'm not familiar with the Intel My Wifi software, but maybe you need to set a static IP address on the A1 if you're trying to connect directly to your laptop?

Had same issue. Found solution from one german forum. Selected "Screen lock sound" from "Settings" - - > "Sound". Now I have no ghost finger any more. Have german version with latest 2643 firmware.

what really happened was, that in recovery mode select accidentally "touch calibration"

but I also fell twice

I try to calibrate it but sometimes it goes "fail" or sometimes succed but still remains the same

I should do?
