Anyone brick an IdeaPad A1 yet?

[ Edited ]

Last night I was switching between youtube and google voice and after changing back to youtube the screen went dark (not off just black) so I thought the video was loading. But then it actually turned off completely. Now the power button doesn't turn the device on. I've tried pressing for a few seconds. I'm pretty sure there wasstill a good 30% left on the battery as I had charged it earlier. when I connect it to usb/charge nothing happens

ZenMasta,

Try leaving it charged overnight and see if it helps.

Re: anyone brick yet?

Well, its been plugged in for nearly 24 hours now and still nothing. No led light that I can see and nothing happens when I press the power button. Guess I need to call for exchange.

Re: anyone brick yet?

Hold tbd power button at least 30 seconds. You should then get a Lenovo logo.

Re: anyone brick yet?

Something similar happened to me.

I had the A1 plugged in with the battery charged to 100%. I turned the backlight off & let it sit for awhile. A few hours later I noticed that the LED was blinking. I pushed the power button & the display said that the battery was at 1%. This also told me that the device had shut itself off. The LED then went off.

After unplugging the charger & plugging it back in I pushed the power button again & nothing happened. I pushed & held the power button for 3 - 4 seconds the way I usually do to power on but nothing happened. Having read this thread I pushed & held the power button again. After about 12 - 14 seconds the Lenovo logo appeared & the device booted up normally. The A1 said that the battery was now at 100% & it has been working OK ever since.

You say WIFI causes this?

I tried pressing the power button again for a long period and it finally booted up. When it turned on the battery life was about what I remembered before this all happened, say 30%. It's now plugged into the wall charger while I got out to the store.

My concern is if/when this might happen again is it going to be past warranty.

I forgot to notice if there is only 30/90 day warranty or whatever on this thing.

When I enter my serial etc online it doesn't say anything for warranty period/status.

Do I live with this or call anyway to report the issue?

Generally, I like this device but so far the reliability is an issue.

p.s. I just got a notice about a system update. It didn't say anything about a specific version or anything but I opted to download anyway. this isn't ICS is it? not that I dont want it, just surprised if it is.

My understanding was that what we have (2.3.4) is what we are stuck with. I seem to recall some note I read a couple of weeks ago saying that we can't upgrade to Honeycomb (something having to do with a single core in the A1 vs dual-core required for 3.x?). So IF that's true and we can't run Honeycomb on the A1, I doubt very much that we'll ever see an ICS upgrade.

Turn the antennas off prior to charging. Set the A1 to airplane mode, then charge it. Doing this has solved my problem with lockup.

Re: anyone brick yet?

Not true, if the hacker community got Honeycomb (android 3) running on the original Nook color, then it can certainly run on the A1.
