Re: [K1-ICS 4.0.3] K1 Alpha v1.5 ICS ROM

Don't thank me/OP, thank khanning and krook-1, the developers of this project.

Khanning in particular has done loads of work on this tablet. He has provided methods for rooting, restoring, upgrading and flashing the K1 and has done so on his own time and dollar.

I linked to his threads on XDA and RootzWiki in my first reply.

That's one of the things that doesn't work yet. It's the reason I flashed back to Honeycomb.

You can't! You're stuck on ICS forever!

Just kidding. You can still get into APX mode and flash that way.

But, try CM9 for a while and see if you can live with it. If I didn't use my tablet for development I'd stay on CM9 and just wait for an update.

If you need to move files, I find WIFI EXPLORER much easier for most files - you just connect to the tab over your LAN and you can move files on and off with ease.  It's much easier than connecting through usb (as long as the file isn't super huge).

AND DON'T FORGET - DEVS LIKE KHANNING DO THIS ON THEIR OWN TIME AND OWN DIME, SO DON'T FORGET TO SUPPORT THEIR EFFORTS THROUGH THE DONATE LINK ON THEIR POSTS ON ROOTZWIKI.

This ROM has CWM installed too so even if you cannot connect to USB you can still download the honeycomb rom onto the tablet and flash it into recovery.

Re: [K1-ICS 4.0.3] K1 Alpha v1.5 ICS ROM

Thanks for bringing this to our atention and thanks to all who have worked on it!

Because I am new at flashing any device (I honestly know nothing about this stuff), I need some further clarification about how to do it. My K1 is stock, never been rooted, still running 3.2.1. So, that means I need to use the nvflash method to update to CM9, right? Okay, so I have downloaded K1_CM9_Alpha_1-5_nvflash.zip to my tablet and Nvflash Windows Drivers to my PC. That's right, right? So, now what? The next instructions mention booting to APX mode, but I don't know what that is and why I should do it. Next the directions say: "1. Extract the K1_CM9_nvflash.zip contents to a directory. 2a. If using Windows, double click the "flash-windows.bat" file." I don't know what I am extracting it from or how to put it in a directory. I also don't know what I am supposed to be doing with Windows and where I will find the "flash-windows.bat file."

My apologies that these questions are so basic. I really would like ICS on my K1, so if someone is willing to spell it all out for me, I will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Re: [K1-ICS 4.0.3] K1 Alpha v1.5 ICS ROM

While all of your questions were answered in this thread already, I suppose it would be helpful to give concise walkthrough.

So.

1. Put your tablet into APX mode. This is done by powering off your K1, then holding the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously. When the two lights next to the home button come on, release the power button. When the screen fades entirely to black release the volume buttons. You are now in APX mode.

2. Connect your tablet to your PC.

3. Install the APX drivers. To do this, open Device Manager and look under APX devices. Right click your tablet (it's probably the only device listed) and click "Update Driver Software". Browse to where you extracted the drivers zip file and select that folder. The NvFlash APX driver should then be listed; select that and proceed with the driver installation.

4. When that is complete reboot your K1 back into APX mode. If all goes well your device should be listed as "NvFlash Recovery xxx", where xxx is something I can't remember.

5. You are now ready to flash. Your K1 should, at this point, be connected to your PC and in APX mode. Go into the extracted CM9 folder and double-click "flash-windows.bat". It will ask if you are sure; just press a key to continue.

6. Flashing generally takes about 7-15 minutes. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR TABLET DURING THIS TIME. Otherwise you will get an unbootable tab and will have to reflash from the beginning.

7. When it is done it your tablet will reboot. Be patient as first boot always takes a while. Setup your K1 and you are done.

Be aware that the following do not work in this version of CM9:

USB data connection

Camera

HD video playing

Microphone

Do not expect them to.
