Lenovo / Android tablet maintenance

Hi all

Does Lenovo / Android tablet need weekly or monthly maintenance like PC? Such as Cleanup, Check Disk, etc.? Is there any tool for recommendations, etc.?

Is there any other guide for users to maintain their tablet physically or / and the software?

Hi Peter,

Hmmm, where to start.

Yes it is good to keep your Tablet as free as possible. As you ask, it does slow down the more cluttered it is just as a PC. Too many shortcuts on the screens can slow you down depending on the amount of pages you have. Widgets slow you down if you have many of them loaded as they use your RAM. If your planning on doing something a little more intensive than any normal app its best to clear or shut down any unused app. Like trying to play HD or 3D games or even Photoshop like programs.

When doing important updates I find it best to restart the Tablet as it clears up everything and makes it fresh for a much better result in updating. In some cases after critical system updates its best to factory reset the device. Just depends on what the critical issue that was resolved is. Like say a big bug arose and a critical system update fixes it, you wouldn't want the bug to continue or possibly come back due to certain settings still set because the system wasn't fully reset. So in most cases a Factory Reset helps.

Tools? Well they work but not for everyone. It still comes down to the user and what settings may be in place. There are quite a number of tools out there. So it all comes down to what may work for you. Since Tablets have a good battery life I don't really see the need for battery life apps. In some cases those apps kill your battery more from running all the time. As for system cleaners they are much better to use as must of them don't stay running. Just load and clean. Android has a default cleaner but from a recommendation from a friend I've come to like "Android Assistant" As it has plenty of cleaning options for the important areas of the Android system.

To sum it all up, I tend to keep an eye on what's running and close what is not needed at the time. And I always reboot before doing any system updates. And from time to time maybe once a week I will clean up with Android Assistant.

@MrPeter1985: You mentioned 'critical updates' - what are these, and how do you classify them?

Well lets see, when users are aware of a massive issues like the keyboard not working, or the built in sensors are not working or even the GPS stopped receiving the signals, you the user would know that the update is for that issue. I would classify those as Critical.

If an update comes for small things like a new theme, or Bluetooth issues fixed, or lock screen unlock is slow, icons not staying on the page. Those would be considered small issues.

Hey I consider tabel maintenance to include cleaning the outside unit as well. What is the best way to clean the gorilla glass? We were cautoned not to use a wet type cleaner. Also, overall outside surfaces.

Good point. There are some Electronic glass cleaners out now that work well.

But since I have left over baby wipes, I just use them. They work well and smell nice too (they clean about anything, gotta love those wipes)

Yes, I use it on my laptop all the time. Always greasy oily finger prints after friends and family use it.

I even clean my Android Cell with it. Gives it a fresh clean feeling.

I was surprised what all baby wipes can clean. Even permanent marker if gotten right away, not sure about old marks.

Yep, $3 for about 250 wipes.

They always come in handy.
