I've been lurking on this board for much of the past year, monitoring the ICS threads and being disappointed by Lenovo's final punt on the matter late last week.
Then I stumbled upon this report:

What do you all make of this? Is this an Asia-only OTA update to ICS? Or is it a bogus report?

Felgercarb,
The story is not accurate. No OTA is planned.
Sorry.

I’m very disappointed in Lenovo. An OTA release of ICS was promised to the users but from all indications this will not be delivered. http://www.lenovo.com/news/mp/en/2012/03/thinkPad-

Now that Lenovo has decided to ignore their customers after promising and not delivering I will be one customer that will sell my lenovo products and look to a more reliable and truthful vendor.

I agree with this.
I have a Lenovo K1 and a Lenovo desktop. We also own a laptop and a 2nd desktop that are due to be replaced. I will think long and hard before giving any of my money to Lenovo after the shabby way they have treated the "regular" K1 owners.
I would love to have a go at the upgrade, but I am not prepared to risk ending up with a paperweight.

Miata2009, nebraskared,
Where do you see a Lenovo statement (not a 3rd party review / story) saying specifically that ICS was going to be provided by OTA? I know there was a period of time on some sites where ICS was originally planned for May....
We have a HUGE thread (which I think you guys had to have been involved in) where back in May, I told everyone that there was not going to be an OTA, that it would be vanilla and gave a Mid June ...(that we subsequently missed).
Throughout the long thread, time and again, I saw people post the MEEP link you include above and we answered months ago. It is an obscure page and is hardly mainstream, especially for US customers.
We have provided a way to install ICS, and Khanning has released several versions that you can install that overcome the google store limitation.
If you then want to return to Honeycomb, we have a KB article with a code link to restore that image.
I will agree that we could have done some things differently. This was a first generation product, and I believe we have learned a lot of lessons based on feedback which are carrying over to our newer tablets like S2109 and S2110.
