Rooting US K1 --- this method wipes tablet clean [ Edited ]

With this method you will lose root with OTA updates however the person who created this method wrote a backdoor script which uses ADB to restore root. If you read the thread from the link in my first posting he explains how to do it. I have not tried. I just refused the latest OTA so I do not lose root. I am still on 13_13.

The removal of root from an OTA depends on the company pushing it. It seems like most companies recently want to lock down the OS so they have less support issues. I for one like android because in the past otas would not break root. Times seem to be changing! ;-)

I had used the backdoor method before I applied the OTA update yesterday night. I followed closely step by step but lost the root still. Anyway, hopefully, there will be another rooted image with the latest update soon.

I need to modify the K1's "hosts" file.  Does anyone know how to modify it without a full rooting procedure?

To regain root with the newest OTA (14_14) you need you reflash the rooted stock image. Then turn on backdoor and reboot, take the OTA, reinstall su and busybox and reboot, check for root, turn off backdoor and reboot.

! Make sure that backdoor is actually enabled! The only way you can tell if it worked is if there is no sound on your K1 (the volume won't be turned down, you will not have any sound).

Thanks everyone. I found out why I could not turn the backdoor on successfully. It's because my ADB version was outdated.

I got mine rooted on 14_14 finally, by following the procedure again.
