Cool easter egg!
Regarding the Build number, is this the same thing you get when you tap once on Settings-About Tablet-System Updates? (I'm away from wifi at the moment, so I can't check.)

When you tap on Settings-About Tablet-System Updates it checks the lenovo OTA site for any new updates and proceeds if needed.
When I tap on Settings-About Tablet-Build Number (K1......14_14.......) an update starts to download, if you check the XML the build number is 99_99 and everything look the same except for the build number. If you choose to install the OTA you will end up with build number 99_99. I'm not sure what it changes or what it does, if you search online for the build no. you won't find any reference and it is not listed on the lenovo OTA site.

Thanks XpplicitLex, I found the same "secret update" on my K1. It's also a Canadian-bought tablet. Has anybody else seen this on tablets bought in the US or other countries?
Has any adventurous person tried it?
More importantly, is it possible to roll back this update later?

I am confirming this on my US market K1. Update seems to be downloading now.

Excellent! I was trying it on a few K1's in FutureShop and it is the same thing. I can't figure out if there is any difference between the regular OTA and this "secret ota". It is odd that you can't even find a reference to the 99_99 online yet alone on Lenovo's site.
I sent this info to some software engineers at XDA to look into but haven't heard back from anyone yet.

This is way cool. Now if I only knew what it did, lol.

If your tablet isn't rooted, check to see if 99_99 is a rooted version.
I noticed that when I installed the 99_99 OTA my already rooted K1 acted differently when titanium backup fixed the SU settings.
Just a thought

Installed the update, does not appear to be rooted.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to learn how to disect the file for the 99_99 OTA and compare it to 14_14 to try and find a reason.
