Favorite apps? Help!

I like them all -- but here's a ques: On the A1 we have "text-to-speech" function embedded. How do you access it? How do you make it "speak" a text file, for example? It's easy on a PC, you highlight the text and engage the program, she speaks. Any guidance?

How do you like swype on the tablet?

I have SwiftkeyX on the A1, and dig it... it is the phone version, but it works fine on the smaller footprint.

Re: What's your favorite apps?

Mantano eReader just became my favourite of all times - supports PDF, ePub. The features that stands out compared to other readers: annotate, highlight, draw, bookmark (and save them).

PS: I am not related to Mantano in any way. Just wanted to share a really really good eReader.

Janet, I must tell you thank you for suggesting this app. Downloaded it on my A1 and my iPod touch and can sync between them both. So much better to enter them on the A1 and just sync to the iPod. This will make my Christmas shopping a snap.

Re: What's your favorite apps?

APTOIDES and APTOIDES REPOS are great apps for any Android capable device, Netflix works pretty good as well, Open Table is good too if your into restaurants and things, Lookout Mobile Security works pretty well too and its free for the most part.  I removed most of the trial software from my K1 including Norton as its not free after 91 days....thats my list for now

K1 (because it matters)

Got it yesterday, and only got to play with it for 24 hours to make sure everything is good (now it's put away until the 25th, you know how that goes? :smileywink: )

First, this thing is nice! I unboxed it, and did a check for any issues. Then I took the 30+ minutes to do all the updates (3) and checked it again for any issues. Then I ran through a number of the apps. Your mileage varies with apps, different people like different apps, and next week a lot of these will go.

Now, what did I add?

Apps:

ADWLauncher EX - Just my preferred launcher. I prefer my home screen to be uncluttered and I get all the functionality I need with this app (that's why I went Android, don't you know?). - Works perfectly

Quick Office Pro HD - All the apps you need to take care of business.

Slingplayer - I've got a Slingbox, and now I can watch any DirecTV channel I want on my tablet.

EagleEyes - Connects via home network and internet to my surveillance system.

QuickPic - Just an all-in-one photo/video viewer that I prefer.

Games:

Riptide GP - I'm not a game player per se, but... if you want a game to show off your tablet with, this is a good one...

What doesn't work?

HBO Go and Max Go. - I've found out that this is a software issue on the supply side, and not anybody's tablet's fault.

Swype - I get white boxes where I should be seeing text typed in.

UPDATE! : The latest Swype beta (v3.26.92.37604) works properly!

Just discovered this free app today. I don't know how many people are like me and enjoy having different photos show up as their wallpaper, but for those that are, this one seems pretty good. I put it on my tablet (of course, that's why I'm posting here) and my DroidX, and it's working great on both. Lots of options, and you can have different pics on different screens if you so desire (you set the interval for change and/or double clicking changes it).

I'm not saying it's the best, but then again, I haven't seen a better one yet (and it's free!). If anyone has another that they've been using that they think is better, please post it.

Re: What's your favorite apps?

I have the A1, and as of right now, I'm loving it. Most of the unecessary tasks I used to do on the computer, I now undertake on this tablet. The computer is now only used for uni work, and that's about it.

As for the apps, for video viewing, my favourite is Mobo Player. It is free from the Android market place and works FLAWLESSLY on the A1. It can play your AVI's straight off of your SD card or internal memory.

As for reading books, I have Aldiko which is a free eBook reader. There is a PRO version which I have purchased because I believe the developer does deserve support for a great app. However, I have not seen any major changes between the free and PRO version...

As for my launcher, I use Go Launcher Ex. This is the best launcher in my opinion, you are able to add many widgets, but also keep your apps managed in a folder like the iPhone. A must have for Android users.
