Did you kill the apps running in the background (like Social Touch and ArcSync) as was suggested?

Good. Don't forget that there are a few ArcSoft apps that came with the K1, and they all like to share your photos and music with their servers back home. Kongregate is another big culprit.
Second thing to check is whether apps are currently updating themselves in the background. A number of apps that came with the K1 are allowed to update themselves automatically from the Android Market and from the Lenovo Market.
Third thing to check is your network connection. If the K1 (or indeed any device) is waiting for a response from a server on the other side of a slow connection, that will slow down everything else.
Fourth thing to check is Live Wallpaper. The ones that came with the K1 only slow it down a little bit, but many others will have a noticeable impact.

Perhaps a Factory Data Reset? Don't know about the K1, but the A1 is in Settings/Privacy.
