yoga 13 wifi issues

I just recieved my yoga a few days ago and am having trouble with wifi connectivity.  If i am sitting on top of my router the yoga works well and fast however just one room away with the machine on my lap and i am unable to connect at all.  The laptop recognizes my network but is unable to open simple web pages or email.  

I contacted lenovo who told me it was an issue with the microsoft updates and we restored to factory settings and turned off autmomatic microsoft updates but am still having the issue.

Otherwise the yoga works very well but will have to return if i am unable to travel outside of 10 feet of my router without losing internet.  Wondering if anyone has any reccomendations or dealing with similar issues.  Thanks for the help

Holding the power button for a fully reset, have you tried another wifi router?

i don't think this is a router issue as we have 2 other macbooks in the house which do not have internet connectivity issues when used side by side with the yoga

Update WIFI driver to the latest one from www.lenovo.com, you could have a return if still have problem.

I've noticed weak WIFI performance from my Yoga as well. It's not that it can't connect to the router it's just that it gets "less bars" and it has much reduced speed over my android phone, android tablet, and Lenovo V570 laptop. It seems they need a better driver (?) for the Yoga...

Hi there,

I had a similar issue with another laptop (Asus Zenbook UX32VD) with my wifi installation. I solved it by restricting the wifi use to wifi G instead of wifi N (in the wifi card parameters). Although the bandwidth is smaller, the wifi was then working perfectly.

Have you tried this solution ?

Is the updated driver the one dated 10/23/2012 on the lenovo web site at http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS031976

Or are you referring to another, more recent driver for the Yoga 13 ?

Is anyone else having WiFi issues?

My router is a Netgear WNDR3700 with updated firmware.

Download and upload speeds are really poor.

I am using my Yoga with the Netgear WNDR3700 (fw V1.0.16.98-dnsNA) and it's working great.  The displayed # of bars in the taskbar may sometimes not display the max but the wireless speed is great -- I just measured 17 Mbps download via speedtest.comcast.net with 4 out of 5 bars.

I set the 2.4Ghz Wireless Mode to "Up to 130 Mbps", not "Up to 300 Mbps" (I didn't want to bond two channels as 6 is very busy near my house).  I'm using WPA2-PSK [AES] and Channel 11 (inSSIDer shows Channels 11 is clearest vs. 6 and 1).  Good luck, optimizing wireless speeds is a pain.
