Has anyone ever encounted this situation?
Netbook sat in storage for many years after production, OS was never installed. Subsequently the batter died, but netbook will still power on.
Tried 3 flavors of Linux (DSL, Vector, *buntu) and 2 of Windows (XP, 7). Each OS I try to install reaches a point where it just sits there for hours and wont go any further.
With the linux ones it seems to happen just after a line about "AC"... so I'm thinking that the OSs all look to the batter for some info, but because mines dead, the information is never sent back... but the OS keeps waiting?
Correct?
Anyone ever had this problem? Its a 'new' old Lenovo 10S-3.

Hi hellhuhu and welcome to the community,
Are you trying to load the OS with the battery in or out? Or, have you tried it both ways?

It turned out to be a hardware compatibility issue between the external DVD/CD ROM drive and the netbook.

At least that was easy.
Thanks for posting the fix.
