Keyboard problem - will a Format and Windows reinstall help?

Ideapad S12 - Intel Atom - Windows XP Home - Factory install, no memory upgrade etc.

Hi All,

The keyboard has suddenly stopped responding completely. It had been giving issues for a while but was still working. You try and double-click an icon on the desktop and it would ask you "Are you sure you want to delete this?" for some other file that I did not even touch.

Now the touchpad is working fine however I cant click on any icon on the desktop as its the same file that remains selected all the time.

The keyboard is completely dead now. Cant even get into BIOS configuration as the F2 would not work during boot up. Tried an external USB keyboard and that works like a charm.

Wonder how this problem ha occured, no history of any coffee split on the keyboard etc. Must admit though that it was running with free or no anti-virus for a while.

Do you reckon it would help if I format and reinstall Windows on it?

Any pointers much appreciated

it won't help. you need keyboard replacement. call lenovo support line for free replacement if you have valid warranty.

Thanks.
Dont have warranty - the laptop is about 18months old now. What is the approximate cost we are talking about if I need to get it replaced? Any idea of UK specific prices???

Thanks

i said it's keyboard but you may not need keyboard replacement. could be the cable that connects it to the mainboard.

you can buy it on ebay so if it doesn't work, you can ship it back.
it's about 6-20 $ by the way.
