Re: Shipping discussion for S9 / S10 netbook IdeaPads

I made an order for an S10e white-cover version on the 12-May-2009. I didnt get a shipping date whats so ever and its only just recently changed the order status from 'Scheduled' to 'Released'. So I decided to call them up, and ask about an estimated date, for when it will arrive. Turnsout when they say 'Released' its means their in the process of manufacturing the order, which I didnt have a problem with. It was when they mentioned when is the nearest shipping date; 1-June-2009. That is just under three from when I placed the order. I can understand that its takes time to make the product, but you would think the shipping times are at more regular intervals.

Re: Shipping discussion for S9 / S10 netbook IdeaPads

About the S10-2....the changes are mostly cosmetic.

Glossy, patterned shell vs. matte, which not everybody wants.

Slightly larger keyboard and trackpad, which is the best change in this model.

Better audio output...but hopefully nobody is buying a netbook for supreme audio fidelity.

Three USB ports...but this comes at the expense of the ExpressCard slot, which is the primary reason I bought the newest-generation S10 anyway.

Possible inclusion of a 3G device, for $50 more...depends on your preference.

So it's not like this new model is a world-beater...I would prefer it (and the $349 price point is pretty sweet) except that it eliminates the ExpressCard, which is one of the few things that distinguished it in the overcrowded field of 10" netbooks.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

Re: Shipping discussion for S9 / S10 netbook IdeaPads

Lenovo sent me a survey today. Here was my reply for giving them a 1. It would've been a zero had it not been for the expresscard and the excellent solid feel compared to other netbooks.

-=-=-=-=- Copied Text from survey -=-=-=-=-

Great product. Build quality seems solid. Love the expresscard slot. Horrible experience with getting my order and obtaining recovery cd's.

My order was delayed twice. Customer service has no way of instantly knowing what is going on. Takes them two days to find out. I might be okay with he order taking a month had I known from the start. But instead the website say it will ship within a few days. Almost imediately after placing the order the ETA is two weeks out. When that date is reached the change it again. Even reps you call give you different dates on their systems. Why is there a delay in these systems syncing up? It only takes my seconds to send an email across the world. I work in IT in a globally traded company and would've been fired if my systems slipped to your levels. Lenovo was not like this when IBM ran the laptop division. This is unacceptable in the modern world where information moves so easily. Just not within Lenovo.

I eventually received my order after placing it on a priority list. Just to find out that my laptop was manufactured for nearly two weeks prior to it being shipped. It had a mfg date of 09/04/23. My package (Tracking# 1Z9918AW3981865984) left Greensboro, NC on 5/4/2009. What kind of priority list is this? I could have received my order when it was originally promised.

One of the laptops have performed poorly since I booted it up. I suspect this is software related but the built in factory recovery mode did not fix the issue. It locks up itself. I called Lenovo to get recovery cd's as I have an external usb dvd drive. I was told reovery cd's do not exist for this model. What the hell is going on? I paid for a machine with Win XP and I want the media for it. I paid for the licensing for Win XP and I should have the media for it. Furthermore even though the manual tells you how to access the hard drive, Lenovo will not send me a replacement reimaged hard drive. I have to part with my brand new S10 for however long it takes their repair depot to fix it themselves. At this point I have no reason to believe the week or so they quoted me. Repairs will have to be made after I complete my trip. The support rep I spoke to made a note in my case and gave me the okay to install my own temp operating system. Since then the system have been running okay with my own OS installed. I will send the unit to be re-imaged after my trip.

So here's the summary:
*04/15/2009 - Order placed. Website said 4-5 business days to ship. Or did I see 3-4 days? I checked online immediately and it gave me an ETS of 4/27
*04/23/2009 - Laptop was made and labeled. Except nobody in Lenovo knew where it was.
*04/27/2009 Original Ship Date. Called and spoke to Ateeg Jain when I discovered ship dates have been changed to 5/1 fo the Red S10 and 5/7 for the White S10. Ateeg said that if the order doesn't ship on 4/27 as originally estimated I can call back the next day to have the order added to a priority list.
*04/28/2009 I called and spoke to Mansur around 9:40am PT. He sent a note to their req team and said it would take two days for a response. I can call back 4/30 to check.
*05/01/2009 I called and spoke to Bala, he gave me a ETS date of 5/5 for both units, spoke to manager Richard and he gave me the same BS. They can't even guarantee it will ship that week. Heck he couldn't even guarantee I'd get it in 2009. At this point I had given up. Seriously considering giving up PC's forever and only purchasing Apple PC's from now on.
*05/04/2009 I received an email from Lenovo that says part of or all my order was shipped today. Unfortunately I won't have the tracking number until tomorrow. That's another thing I don't understand. Why would information not be available on another system instantaneously? I am happy to get this email and I will keep you posted on when I actually get my order. I am going on a trip on 5/16 and I am hoping that I will be able to test this netbook out.
*05/07/2009 Order received. Happy with build quality and pretty much nothing else.
Need recovery cd's right away to find none available.

This is my first PC purchase since swearing off PC's since I switched to Macs almost three years ago. I will never do business with Lenovo again.

Re: Shipping discussion for S9 / S10 netbook IdeaPads

Final Update:

5/19/2009:  I received the order yesterday - 2 weeks from the date (5/04) I placed the order. Not too bad, consider some people have to wait over a month for this hot item. Except for two weeks wait, and a misleading ship date (I saw estimated 4 days when I placed the order), I'm happy with the process. Along the way, I shared the pain with some of members here. I  also appreciated the help from MichM and others in providing  me with the info to expedite the order.

Thank you all.

I would suggest that you call, call and then call some more.  That seems to speed things up, at least it did for me.

Re: Shipping discussion for S9 / S10 netbook IdeaPads

I ordered S10 from lenovo.com on May 31. The initial estimate for shipping was June 5. Which was reasonable and I have bumped shipping to 2 day for 10$. Now shipping estimate is July 10! That makes delivery time about 40 days. That is quite a dissapointment :-(.

[ Edited ]

P.M. has been sent :smileyhappy:

This is the update. June 18, 2009. Today I have picked up my S10 from UPS Customer Center. They have actually tried to deliver yesterday, but I was not at home to sign up the paperwork. Overall it took about 2.5 weeks to recieve my notebook. I guess it is acceptable.  After all I am just a happy owner of S10 :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Shipping discussion for S9 / S10 netbook IdeaPads

Hi Lenovo:

Please help me, it's taking so long to expect the S10 that I've ordered.

My order was placed on 06/05/09, part #

4231ACU  IPAD S10 N270 10.2WSVGA AG

after the order, the online order status shows that Est.Ship Date 06/19/09

at 06/16/09 i received a e-mail from Lenovo Websales, it tells me that

 Dear Valued Lenovo Customer,

We are contacting you with regard to your recent Lenovo order for a Lenovo
S10 IdeaPad – 4231ACU.

Due to an overwhelming demand on this particular product, we regret to
inform you that there is no longer supply available
in our warehouse to fulfill your order.  Lenovo is pleased to provide you
with a free upgrade from the 4231ACU to the 4231AJU.

Please reply to this note no later than the end of the day on Friday June
19 or your order will be cancelled.

I replied the e-mail immediately and agreed the Upgrade.

after about two days later, when i check the order status, the Est.Ship Date was push to 07/03/09 without any notice

and still shows Status: In process

Actually, i really need the S10 as soon as possible, because I will go to another state for a business trip on mid of July.

I have to bring this Netbook with me. it's been almost a month since I placed the order. it's the longest order prosess time I ever experienced.

is there any one can help me with my  order?

please. thank you
