The one you are missing is the one I need the 39WW.
How close is the 38WW to the 39?
Thanks

Hi,
no difference in case of fan ...
if you mean that.... and you want to do i guess..
but i think there is a breakpoint somewhere between the 4x and 5x bios you cant reflash it to 38 means no way back... i cant remember its half a year ago must be written in a readme...or in the big fan thread...

ps: S10e production begins at bios 49... so ive tried yesterday flash back to 50 ... it works but
annoying short fan cycling short times instantly comes up....rapidly flashed back up to my current bios 67... runs longer but quiter at summer now high 83 degrees Fahrenheit or 30 degrees Celsius...

Well I may be unable to do what I want. I already have 5-S10,s with no fan noise problems. They all have the 39WW BIOS and I want to add a few more units. With the trouble that others have had with later BIOS I want to be able to reset the BIOS to 39WW on any new units I purchase. Perhaps I would not be able to retro fit the older BIOS in a new model.
Thanks

Hi, frankjg
in case you want to have the 39...
download
a bios for S10e
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/documen
...extract it... you got this winpflash...

Picture for illustration only forget in this case the green mark ![]()
the Version for S10 i think didnt have the Advanced setting option
you need it later...
you could see in the upper section WinPhlash Operation
the option Backup BIOS only...
so hook this option and start Flash BIOS ...
the winphlash prog save your 39 as bios.bak in the same folder...
so you have a bios.bak rename it to 39.WPH ..
to prevent some unwanted delete the BIOS.WPH (the 67 for S10e) you dont need this...
only the flash program is needed for save ..
you could try to flash on the newer bios model you have...
go in advanced and unhook the flash only when newer ...
... rest is your decision.. retro a new one ... ?
have a great 4th july...weekend

Hi Frank,
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/documen
has a summary of changes.
Notes:
So if the new computers has bios 47 or later, it is not supposed to be reversible to 39 (It must be possible somehow, it's the same chip, and it only has to be programmed, but that is beyond an end user like me!)
50 and 51 has the annoying "hunting" on/off fan behavior. I'm happy with the 57 version, cool, quiet, long battery time, and it doesn't have any problems that I can't work around.

Thanks Kevin:
I was not aware of the side effect use of WinPhlash. That will at least give me a copy of 39WW.

Hi Hans:
Not being able to retro fit late BIOS is a possibility I hope that does not occur.
For as good as the S10 is Lenovo sure made some serious errors in the design plan for it.
