I've been trying to fix my Lenovo S10-3 after it errored when I tried to do a USB install of XP.
Then I was told to try removing my RAM, since my netbook was upgraded to 2GB of RAM, which was running perfectly on the Windows 7 before.
After removing the RAM and plugging it back in however, now when I turn on my computer the power LED lights up, and I can hear sounds from the disk, yet my screen is black.
I've also tried to do the procedure where you clear the capacitors by holding the power button for 30 seconds while the battery and AC are unplugged.
What can I do? I purchased an external DVD drive to fix my install, but I can't do anything right now since the netbook boots to a black screen.

Hi and welcome,
approve correct seat of memory ... could be loose contact ... and retry ...
if you have the possibility plug a external screen via vga connector (flat screen/ tv).. to proove internal setting is to external screen or internal isnt work...
Try another memory module if you have one...
by the way its recommended to Update your s10-3 to bios v37 (2ACN37WW.exe) Fixed the memory compatibility issue
Important: Reboot your machine prior to bios update
Note: Please press F2 to access bios, then press F9 and load default settings in order to get machine works properly after new bios update.

I'll try the external monitor.
there doesn't seem to be another slot for the RAM.
also tried replugging the RAM several times to no avail.
can't really do a BIOS update since im in the middle of trying to fix the OS (which is broken so I don't think I can install a BIOS update). Do I actually need a BIOS update? Since the computer was working fine with the RAM stick before on Win7. It only started giving me problems after I took it out of the computer once.

When you start the machine, is there the Lenovo Logo start screen .? & then screen turns black, that could be a damaged windows files... try to restore your windows system or try a Linux Live CD to check prob that depends on system ...
when screen will black on start with no Lenovo Logo screen ... hardware problem happens.(memory, even when it work before) if nothing works
call your local service

I'm getting a black screen before the Lenovo logo.
Is it even possible for the hardware to fail? I literally just took out the ram and put it back in..

no Lenovo Logo screen ... hardware problem happens.(memory, even when it work before)
Nothing is impossible , sh.. happenz , if you touch the memory with charge electromagnetical pulse ..the chance if that happens is low but is always there..
as i say above... try if you have one , a different other memory module...
if that doesnt work , call your local service

I have the same problem, it doesn't even boot from a Live CD, no HDD light; nothing. Going to try reseating RAM.
