S205 Lines flicker on screen

Hey there.

My lenovo s205 was purchased earlier today.

Model number is s205 - 1038

4GB RAM

E300 - 1.3GHz APU + Radeon GFX

Windows 7 64 bit

Essentially, every so often I get one or more thin lines flickering horizontally on the screen in various different places.

I have seen various solutions such as installing AMD Catalyst and uninstalling powerplay (?), but as a new machine I would expect it to work perfectly brand new, and do not fancy messing round with it.

I found reducing the resolution helps a small amount, but the lines still flicker occasionally, and I want to use the full resolution.

Any ideas will be much appreciated!

not sure but it sounds like ram issue. can you check if the rams work fine first?

Only available downloads I can see are for bootable USB sticks, and I do not particuarly want to do this.

Any other methods of testing the RAM?

This issue is a very well known one, but lenovo have not yet posted a solution.

I have the same problem e450 2+2gb ram win 7 64-bit and win 8 64-bit. Tested memtest and found no problem. It doesn't happen on 3d or when playing a movie but on desktop when opening a window, firefox etc. It usually fixes when i shut down the computer and restart it.. I've tried different catalyst drivers and powerplay status with no luck eliminating the problem.

Machine is rebooted and has noot flickered all day.

Initial flickering occured yesterday when netbook was located next to a few lithium polymer batteries - possible cause?

Really do not know whats happening.

Feel a bit unsure about sending it back, price was good.

could be loose cable. is it possible to record a video or take a photo when it happens?

As it happens ver randomly, it is difficult for me to capture it on my screen, however, someone as posted a video on youtube that is the same issue as mine.

Lines tend to be in the same spot/area.

It was only solved for little while, back in august 2011. The flickering restarted after win 7 updates jan-feb 2012. it is very intermittent. one moment the screen is fine and next it flickers like crazy. I doubt this problem will ever be solved. I would return netbook to the store if you can.
