Can not enter BIOS on my Z570

Send it in to Lenovo.

That Ubuntu thread is old, and I would NOT try any of
the ideas there on a new machine, especially with UEFI
and Ubuntu is possibly what goofed up the bios in the
first place!

I know you are trying to help, but feel that that is bad advice.

Duck3 I totally agree. I will be returing the computer tomorrow, I am not even sure if I should take another Lenovo after all the problems I had

I know this thread is kinda old, and I have a different system (z580 almost the same), but i would like to know what happened if you dont mind.
I have the same problem and it's getting frustrating. Did Lenovo fix the problem? if so, what did they do?

Hello ,

I am not sure you can update bios using virtual machine , please try to search about it. So all you need to do  install  virtual machine on  ubuntu and set windows virtual machine and update the bios. I am not sure but it might work.

I got exactly the same problem as yours!! Cannot boot into BIOS and I suspect it is related to UEFI booting mode. And I search some forums, there are many people have the same issues, especially for lenovo laptops. There must be something wrong with the BIOS in lenovo's machine. Please do some thing, lenovo!

I am having the same problem.

I replaced my WD hard drive with an Intel 520 SSD of 180 GB. The I put the original WD HDD in a caddy instead of the CD_ROM.

After I tryed to install Windows 7 in UEFI mode ( Formatted the SSD as GPT) I can no longer enter BIOS or Multiboot menu. I has the similar simptoms as jan3594 and nothing works.

I am in luck because I still have the old Windows 7 on the WD HDD.

Now I am worried that if my windows will break I can't install anything else.

Seeing that many others have the same issue and it isn't fixed make me seriously question the Lenovo brand.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Hello,

You are correct, this is a UEFI messed up problem. I have (until tommorow when I will return it) a Lenovo G580 and I delete the Windows 7 partitions which was installed using BIOS; I installed Ubuntu 12.04 using UEFI and no more F2 menu to enter the BIOS...

I have tried to recover the image from Win7, no way since BIOS installation used and Ubuntu was installed using EFI.

I dont know if this will help you   but it helped to all of my friends who had a Lenovo with  a    UEFI  bios

Lenovo is now using a new bios that is called UEFI  ( or somethink like that)

and I dont know no one  who can enter bios by the old way by pressing F2  or  F12 on a Lenovo laptop with UEFI bios

if you want to enter bios  or boot device priority      you have to press a small button near the big power button

when you press that small button

 you will have a choice  

normal boot

enter bios setup

enter boot device priority

system recovery

i hope that this will help because I had the same problem
