Hi my Lenovo Y560 has serious temperature problems and it suddenly shuts off during playing games. I tried everything like Bios update, graphic card update , formatting the pc etc, but none of them has worked. I found a strange solution to this and it actually worked. When I put something like a course book under the notebook to raise it a bit in order to prevent it from shutting off , it does not power off or shut down, and I can play the games. I guess the problem is associated with the high temp on Gpu or main board, I have no idea. By considering the possibility that the problem can be solved if the underside of the notebook could be kept cooler, I thought that I can buy a cooling pad or fan. However, some people say that Lenovo y560 mismatches with the cooling pads since the fan is aside of the notebook. I just want to ask whether cooling pads or fans can actually work or not. If I purchase one, can I dissolve the problem?

You must be sure to not block the vents on the bottom
of a laptop. The fan draws cool air in from the bottom,
and exhausts it out the side. Make sure the rubber "feet"
on the bottom are there also.
A cooling pad will help, at least to keep the vents unblocked.
If using on your lap any large flat surface to set it
on can be used, and will help.

I searched some coolers on internet and decided to purchase a THERMALTAKE MASSIVE23 LX 10" - 17".It looks fine and is very cheap. Zalman NC2000 was perfect but much more expensive and I cannot afford to it. Has anyone heard of this cooler?

This one is also very nice if you want one to use on your lap, They both fit the Y560 well but the first one does not work well one the lap! It is best used for desk setup.
And yes they do work at keeping temps down the first one will even bring my temp down 2-3 degree with-out fan on. It is made of solid Aluminum and does a great job of spreading heat!
I always use these to ad life to my laptops I have used many over the years, most suck air down and blow out the bottom both of these units draw air up and blow out the top, and as you know the Y460 & Y560 draw up from the bottom.
Bottom line both of these coolers are the best quality and price you can get and are well made and will last a long time.
Good luck don't think about it just get one of these two

Good point about the air flow direction. idhurst33.
And yes, any flat, solid surface will help.
"LAPtop" indeed. Vents often get blocked when on the lap.
