I have been informed by the engineering team that there will be an update to the OneKey application to address the partitioning issues that customers are having. They are busy working out the details now. As soon as I get a release date from the team I will post it here and will include a download link once it is released.
This is good news indeed!
Will this solution also apply to the Idea Centre? If so, would you post a similar notice in the idea centre forum for the beneift of those customers too?

Skripatch-
I don't think you are very kind. You make me feel like an idiot and I do not appreciate it. Why would anyone suspect that they would be required to learn a new way to store their personal information COMPARED TO EVERY OTHER COMPUTER I HAVE OWNED? That's the part that ticks me off. Your Ford analogy stinks and I sincerely don't appreciate your rudeness.
Do you know how many steps there are to get to my things that I need that are stored on the D drive? Sorry, of course, you know everything. I do not WANT TO go through all of those extra steps. I want it to be easy, like my other four computers. And easy for a non-computer-literate teenager to use. Please don't insult her and say that she is stupid, too, as her brains got her a free ride in a college where the tuition is $40,000/year. She had better than a 4.0 GPA and she is going into medicine. But she is not computer-savvy.
You are a wonderful, talented guru and I'm sure some of the others here appreciate you. Telling someone how stupid they are isn't really all that kind, and you would think someone "smart" like you would find a tactful way of saying things.

Janicej, Thank you for your clearly defined procedure for repartitioning the drive.

Sorry may suggestions won't help. I guess the warranty could be important. I don't worry about that. In fact, I don't subscribe to any extended warranties either. If it totally packs it in, so be it. It isn't my life-blood savings invested for sure. I could have returned the computer within 30 days and would have been completely free and clear. I chose to make the computer work for me, warranty or no. I like the computer and I hope it will last for many moons. I have some 6 computers in my home and vacation place -- this is one for travel. My first experience with Vista, but so far so good. You have to call it as you see it.

I read through the instructions from Janice, and think I could do that, but I did buy the extended warranty, and called the company and they said if ANYTHING happens after I do something like that, the warranty is null and void.
So....
I guess I could wait until Lenovo comes up with THEIR way of re-doing this to make my computer user-friendly.
Sorry, moderators, for the use of the term "guru." It was one which had been lovingly applied to that guru before, either by him/herself or by one of the moderators. I meant it in a totally respectful manner, and was only pointing out that since I am NOT one, I would appreciate help, not humiliation, in resolving what I consider to be a problem.

We spoke with Lenovo Customer support at 877-453-6686. They are sending us, for free, discs that will remove the current one key set up and allow us to install the all software from scratch into one big C drive. At this point, we don't care about the 1 Key Feature. Too much time and aggravation has been expended.
Unfortunately, the recovery discs that come with the Y510 do not include this disc they are sending: the discs included in the box will only restore it to its original configuration with the partitioning.
We have 2 of these IdeaPads, and will report to you the outcome after we have basically installed Vista and its necessary components, and then whatever software WE want. We may choose to make a smaller D partition, but since most of our programs want to install into C, even in Expert or Custom Mode, we need at least 80gbs in C: at the least.
What's ironic is that Windows Vista automatically downloaded Service pack 1, which is said requires about 5gb of free space. There is not 5gb of free space on the C drive with only the software this came loaded with.
This is an attempt to salvage our investment, and will probably give these units to others in the office requiring less programs and a lightweight video card. Thos of us who need to use graphically demanding software should not have even tried to make these Y510 do more than they were designed to do. At under $800 each, I guess you get what you pay for. (but that does not mean it is okay to market laptops that require reformating to be useful!)
Good luck to all, and I'll let you know how the removal of the partition and onekey worked out.
Jeff
