When I set it to "Best Battery Life" it won't recharge? Why is that? how can I get it to recharge in that mode? thanks!!!

If you use "Best battery health" option your battery will be charged to 50% and from then on it will not charge the battery, it stops the charging and use power from AC adapter, if there is a power off, then the battery will be used. This will protect the battery from wear and tear because the battery loses its capacity when you use it fully, as the charge and discharge cycles increase your battery will deteriorate.
So Use "Best battery health" option when you regularly use laptop under AC power otherwise if you want to take it out and want to use it for long time use "Optimize for battery runtime".

Hey Duck3,
My Y470's best battery health, takes it down to 47% (plugged in, not charging). In 1 year I've only charged it up to 100% twice. That was when some bad weather came through, and I thought my power might go out. After the storms, I re-set my power scheme back to best battery health, and the charge was taken down to the 47% level.
Is there that much of a difference between the Y570, and the Y470, best battery setting? ![]()

Unless somebody was able to install a later version of Energy Management and actually get it to work, there shouldn't be any difference. They both have version 6.0.2.0 listed on the driver site.
My U160 came with version 5.4.1.9 and it holds the charge to 80%. I tried to install later versions and it told me I had an illegal battery. So I went back to the original.

Dave,
I have the 6.0.2.0 Energy Management software installed. I guess no one in this thread completely answered the OP question, how can you charge your battery when it's in the best battery health setting?
To charge up your battery, you need to change the EM setting from Best Battery Health, to Optimize For Battery Runtime. Apply the new setting, and your battery will charge up to it's maximum level. If you only want it to charge up to the best battery health of 50%, change it back to BBH when it reaches a 50% charge status.
