Help on Purchasing

Hello,

I've been wanting to get a new laptop for a while, and Lenovo has had my interest due to all the positive feedback about their laptops.  But I would just like the community's help when it comes to this.

Which Lenovo Laptop is best for gaming?  Along with screen captures, and mild program developing.  The games I'd be playing are games like Skyrim and Minecraft; people have told me that the ThinkPads can run them decently, and with decent settings on the.  And the program design wouldn't be anything big, just Java.

I just want a powerful laptop that can accomplish everyday tasks I would need it for :smileyhappy:  If anyone has any input on which would be the best purchase, don't be shy to let me know!

Thanks!

(Sorry if I posted in the wrong place, I'm new to the forums here :smileyhappy: )

Re: Help on Purchasing

Well my friend, the laptop for you is the Y570 or the newer Y580. I was looking for the same specs when I bought my Y570 and I'm very happy with it. Runs games smoothly and has great processing power :smileyhappy:
About the ThinkPads, they are truly great laptops. I mean that they are really durable machines. Most of the T and W series have powerful components too- i7, nVidia Quadro ect. but they are for working people and they come at a price :smileyhappy: For me, if I had the money I'd probably buy a new W series ThinkPad, but the problem was that it costs twice as much compared to IdeaPads
I hope this short review was helpful

Re: Help on Purchasing

I have to agree with kostadinbal.  I have a Y570 and it runs Skyrim just fine (high settings with a few tweaks from tweakguides.com).  The Y580 would be a step up, but if history tells us anything it's best to wait for several months after a product line opens;  there seem to be a lot of early complaints about the Y570.

The screen resolution on the Y570 is kinda low, so that might be something to consider too.  I use an external monitor as my primary so it doesn't bother me that much but does bother a lot of other people who want to see 1080p on their laptop screens.   Battery life isn't the best either, having about an hour's worth of Skyrim with Wireless and Bluetooth disabled (I think I squeezed 90 mins NVIDIA turned off (yes, Skyrim can run on the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics card, although on Medium settings).

The Thinkpads are built way better, but they do come at a steeper price.  Having said that, I managed to run Skyrim on a T61 with 5GB of RAM on Medium settings despite the specs being way below the minimum posted for Skyrim.   That laptop is close to 5 years old now, which really says something about how bulletproof some Thinkpads can be.
