Hi,
Today I noticed a strange behavior on my notebook:
- if turned on, the power button led, and the "on" led on the front are continuously blinking
- if I turn off the computer, it stops after a second if its on battery
- if turned off and on ac it continues blinking
- my fan is behaving strange too, it spins up then it stops periodically (1-2 sec period)
What happened? Yesterday it was working just fine ![]()
I'm getting tired fighting with this notebook...
Any help appreciated!
Edit:
Noticed that the power button does not puts the computer from on state to sleep however it is set in the power options.
Edit 2:
By pressing the power button it writers a 'v' character

Hi,
I am having the same problem with my Ideapad U 310
The power button and the status light indicator, both simultaneously & continously blink when the laptop in ON either on battery or plugged in.
On pressing the power button when the laptop in functioning, it does not go to sleep mode, even if it has been configuired for the same.
After shut down, if the laptop is put for charging, power button and the status light indicator, both simultaneously & continously blink and on remving the AC connector from the laptop, the power button and status display stop blinking but stay lighted continously.
Other wise the laptop functions normally.
Is this a hardware problem?

Hi,
After today I upgraded the ram, I had an idea of disconnecting the battery, maybe it clears some errors in the bios. And after that the "blinking led" problem went away and even the fan started to work properly. Strange...

I have this problem too. Is there any simple way to fix it without opening notebook?

It is the Lenovo Smart Update software. It appears that it tried to run last night when I came to the same issue. You have to open the smart update utility and enable or disable to get it to stop blinking. Seems to have gotten hung somehow and it woke up the computer when it wasn't suppose to (causing it to flash the light thinking it is still in sleep mode). Give it a try and let me know. Was going crazy but that fixed the issue. Good luck!

Hi jfoudos
thanks for the Smart Update tip. It worked for me, the power light is now on steady and it is working correctly as set in the power options.
I have re enabled the Smart Update and the power button still fine.
Thanks again for the tip.

I was so smart that I uninstalled lenovo Smart Update completely. Now my LED blinks and the fan keeps terrorizing me every few seconds. So I'd like to reinstall Lenovo Smart Update but apparently it is nowhere to be found. I looked under D:\drivers\ here on the website and on google but it is nowhere. Anybody knows where to get it?
Bests
Edit after I contacted the german phone support
Not even the phone support knows where one could get a setup for Smart Update. But they hinted me the right way. When uninstalling Smart Update a windows recovery point is being created. I reverted back to that recovery point and everything seems fine now. Hope that helps someone that stumbles upon this thread.

Had the same issue, Called Lenovo, couldnt help. Asked me to send in my 5 day old ultrabook, they will look at it and try to fix it.
They asked me to remove the battery, however U410 is an ultrabook, If you open the back, it voids the 2 year warranty according to Phone Support.
So I was asked to send it in.
However, Removing the battery.... hmmm lets see what If i let the computer run untill the battery is completely dead...
I mean completely so that even when the power button is pressed there is no light.
Here are the steps:
1. Leave your computer running on high performance so it drains the battery faster.
Once its dead.. press the power button again....
2. Let it die if it turns on...
3. Then once its eventually dead... press the power button it shouldnt turn on but the light light on the power button will light up.
4. Keep pressing the power button untill theere is no light
5. Plug it back in... turn it on.. and the fan turning on and off, and light power button flashing issue should dissappear.
