I think the keys work but you end up having to phone in to activate.
Well in my case, first time it failed, then I got the option to either phone Microsoft or try again, so i clicked on try again and it activated just fine ![]()

Nice write up, and great job on the PC Tweakers site! Kudos to you.
One question on your instructions about downloading from digital river, and using the COA key on the bottom of the system. Our COA is for the OEM version of Windows that is preloaded.
Is the download you are suggested for a retail version? If so, I don't think the key from the COA on the bottom of the system is going to unlock it, or perhaps in 30 days, the user could start getting the activation messages.
Thoughts on this? I've not tried your process, so I'm just curious.
Thanks again.
Mark
Mark, what you said makes perfect sense, however. surprisingly, the Product Key under the Notebook works perfectly fine when activating while downloading the Disk from Digital River ![]()
It has always worked form e from the first try!
Here is how I do it:
1) Install Windows 7 Home Premium, when prompted to enter the product key during setup, leave it EMPTY
2) When you are in Windows and you have internet connection (obviously you need to install the LAN and WLAN drivers first), right click on computer to get the system properties
3) scroll to the bottom and select CHANGE PRODUCT KEY where it syas "Windows is not activated"
4) Enter the product key underneath your laptop and activate ![]()
If for any reason that fails, then after it fails do Change product key again, and enter that same key, this time it will work 100% ![]()
