Lenovo IdeaPad y560p Amazingly High Temperatures [ Edited ]

Hi, I recently bought a Lenovo IdeaPad y560p for mobile gaming and developement, the first day I had it, I was amazed at how smoothly it ran. I went to bed pleased, the next morning, I turned it on and it was reaching temperatures of up to 80C while playing the game I had the previous day at around 60C and the panel above the fan near the power button seemed amazingly hot after around 10 - 15 minutes of gaming. This game doesn't seem that CPU intensive and the CPU temps were at 80C and the GPU was the same, the biggest problem was the panel near the power button as it was almost too hot to touch after a while... I have been testing each power feature such as Super Power Saver, High Performance, Power Star, Power Saver, so far the Super Power Saver seems to have the lowest temps although they are still reaching around 70 - 80C, I have had the computer overheat on me twice while only running a server application to host for my friends and playing the game at the same time, the other time I was playing a relatively new game, I am now scared to play many games on high graphics because of my fears of it overheating once again, I don't know that it is very good for the computer to have it overheating every few days.

Also, on the software: Speedfan, my GPU Fan says 0 RPM, I don't know if this is because this is a mobility gpu I just thought this may be helpful for diagnostics and my side fan seems to not even be working, I can barely feel the airflow, I have read forums that the fan is loud but I can barely hear mine..

These games were all ran on lowest graphics and still overheated...

You could try to update your BIOS 1st if possible:

If it does not work, I guess it's best to call Technical Support (1800-041-021 for Australia) to open a case and get your machine repaired. They may replace your fan.

Hi Elijah,

this are the temperatures of my healthy IdeaPad Y560p, with the pedal to the metal

the CPU reaches 84 Celsius at Power dissipation of 45.42 Watt,

not gaming, just stressing the CPU.

Temp at idle is 44 C @ 0.70 Watt, with only Firefox running 48 C @ 1.24 Watt.

       

Please check your temp's and wattage again with Hardware Monitor freeware,

if not much different from my measurements, you don't need to repair your Y560p machine,

only if it gets hotter at lower wattage, something might be wrong with the cooling system.

BTW... there is no Y560p BIOS-update available from Lenovo driver download page!

So a chipset update, okay, downloading now, if that doesn't work I can send it to the Techies no matter what? It's really new so I'm hoping it at least has the standard 1 year warranty..

So it should be overheating running the server.exe and the client? Okay, I will tell you the results now...
