Hi all!
I bought a Lenovo Y470 with Intel core i7-2670QM, 8GB RAM, and switchable graphics (NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M)
I am overall very happy with my purchase
However there is a problem with video/audio playback.
No matter what media player I use, my laptop freezes after 5-10 minutes of playback.
It will freeze for about a minute and then resume playing.
This applies to online and local media.
I doubt my system requires this much time to buffer or that it is incapable of playing the media.
It is unusual because my laptop plays taxing computer games with ease.
I can play Skyrim and Mafia II on full graphics without any lag.

I have the WDC WD7500BPVT-24HXZT3 hard drive.
It is partitioned into a Local Disk (C
and Lenovo (D
.
And in smart power-saving, both CPU and HDD power-saving are checked.

Do you have R.I.C. enabled? Maybe the problem is caused by this. See this thread:
Cheers!

No, I dont have R.I.C. enabled.
I believe it may have something to do with the HDD going to sleep.

Have you tried event viewer to see if there is anything logged at the time you freeze up, just note the time it happens go into event viewer and check for any errors or warnings for the time noted by you at the time of the freeze.

There was no event logged at that time, unless I am not looking in the right place.
Any other ideas?

Hey just wanted to let you know the I managed to figure out the problem.
Somehow uninstalling Energy Management fixed it.
Thanks for your help!

You need to watch that software, big issues for me also. Lenovo not really great help on this - they decided it was hardware, replaced some parts, then I had to fix my own software to return to before they touched it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed now, 3 months with this laptop....not sure yet if it was the right choice.
