If you don't have these drivers 285.79 that will probably be the reason. Download and run, if that doesn't install well uninstall what you have in the way of drivers and then install the 285.79, plus you might want to run your Y570 on high performance settings, to stop it from switching into the intel grahics while you're playing (I mean if you don't want the chance of the intel graphics kicking in while you're playing, don't use the recommended setting.

how can i make it run on high performance and stop it from switching? i downloaded the driver and its runs better but still is a bit choppy.

That's weird. I have these beta drivers installed and I can use high performance plan and everything. Which game are you playing?

With mostly every game i play. Battlefield 3 on med, saints row 3, skyrim.

Or you can try playing around with the nvidia control panel. Right click on desktop->nvidia control panel->manage 3d settings and there you'll have a description of what every setting does and if it is better for performance or quality of picture. And while you're in nvidia control panel, check that High Performance GPU is set to Single display performance and that its power settings are set to prefer maximum performance.
