Re: New discussion Y560 display issues

[ Edited ]

Hello,

My screen is flickering while typing. Does anyone have same issue and is there a solution to that problem?

It's better to say that the screen is blinking almost every time I press a key. I noticed also that sometimes when I put glass of water on the table there will be a blink. It seems that any stronger vibration will cause blinking. Sometimes, after few blinks, computer goes to sleep mode without my intervention.

I think that something is oversensitive, maybe quick buttons...

Re: New discussion Y560 display issues

I've noticed only in dark grey colors the screen flickering. I haven't reported this.

Let's suppose it's normal here... although on other notebooks which I use/d (DELL, HP R.I.P. ;P) the display is stable, without flickering. At least I haven't noticed such effect while using them.

the easiest way to determine if display flickering on ATI card is to launch slidenav configuration. You ll see the flickering immediately.

Addon: BTW, on UBUNTU 10.10 there are no flickering or any kind of problem like gradients.

Re: New discussion Y560 display issues

Milo, unless you provide us with your full specs, which BIOS you're running, and which model of LCD display yours is, "I have the same problems" is about as useful as "go pound dirt"  =]

The purpose of this thread is to try and come to a conclusion as to the source of the problems, if you could provide all of your info, and also a description of your exact problems, it would help.

Allright, I think if everyone ran these tests, and reported the problems they have like I have below, we will get somewhere.  (Mark/Yigit/other MOD, I double posted this in another thread b/c there are different people following both, merge or whatever you wish to do with it).

Again, Specs are in my Sig, running Win 7 HP x64.  I will say that in general, this panel seems to be slightly "washed out" in comparison to others, but nothing crazy.  Here are the results of the tests I ran below.  Please take 20 minutes and do the same.  I feel it will get things back on track and give the techs something solid to work with.

Contrast:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/contrast.php

Pretty good here, first box or two are indistinguishable.

Banding:

So, to report on my machine, I don't have any crazy problems, but I will use a website to display what I do see:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php

At that link, my picture is not exactly smooth.  But, it doesn't look like the bad example either.  I do see discrete steps in gradient change (banding), but the gradient isn't mixed up like in their example.  The colors change appropriately, just not perfectly smooth, like it does on the Dell 24FP I'm currently using at work.

Sharpness:

I fail this test:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/sharpness.php

Not sure how to adjust my sharpness.  I don't see this as a serious problem, but ful disclosure here.  The squares do not blend in, they are still very distinguishable.

Gamma Calibration:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gamma_calibration.php

This is off slightly, but not too bad.

Pixel-Walk (Inversion/Flickering):

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.php

Ok, for this test, go to the full-screen mode.  Mine flickers on 7b quite nicely.  But, I haven't been able to duplicate this anywhere else.  Meaning, haven't seen it or been able to reproduce it at all.

Black Level:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php

I cannot see the first few boxes

White Saturation:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/white.php

I cannot distinguish the last 4 boxes. (251-254)
