U300s WiFi Issues

The Wi-Fi on my 3 week old U300s is pretty weak. The system has struggled to connect to various Wi-Fi networks whenever I get >30 ft away from the router. In locations that I'm able to get signal with all other Wi-Fi devices I've been unable to connect with my new U300s. I updated the drivers on 12/27 to the ones that were released on 12/23 and they haven't helped at all. Is anyone else having issues with there wireless?

to be honest, it doesn't sound like driver issue due to you're able to connect internet when you're close to the modem.

it may be related to antenna. at this point, i suggest you to contact lenoovo support line or you can buy external wireless antenna for your modem.

There is no modem in the U300s.  And there is no way to attach an external WIFI antenna so those suggestions are impossible. 

The scenarios he is describing sound a lot like the problems Samsung Series 9 notebooks have been plagued with.  Terrible WIFI performance and weak signal issues.  It's not out of the realm of reason that it cold be a design issue like the Sammy.

Does the U300s have an antenna in the lid or is it buried in the bottom like the Sammy?

There are so few owners right now it's difficult to know if this is an isolated issues or more widespread.  If I were in your shoes I wouldn't want to send my baby to support but it's one of the few options since it sounds like you are past the return period.  You might get lucky and they find a disconnected antenna lead.  I read about that happening to someone recently but I don't recall if it was a U300s.

the wireless antenna is for your router ( wireless modem )
the issue may be related to computers antenna, could be loose cable or defective. if you don't think buying antenna for your router, you can ship your laptop back to service to check its antenna.

The original poster stated "various WIFI networks" so I took that to mean public, private and possibly corporate environments.  You can't go around asking everyone to install an external antenna and frankly many probably already have.

I really hope this is an isolated instance.

Where is the U300s WIFI antenna located in the chassis?

sorry for misunderstanding but i suggested you to contact lenovo support line for hardware support. the other suggestion was for if you don't want to ship it back to service.

You really don't have to answer EVERY question in the forum.

However, if you do want to answer one, please answer the question on the location of the antennas used by the WIFI module.

there's no documentation about hardware maintenance for u300s.
also, dissembling the computer will void the warranty. as i said before, my last suggestion: contact support line.
