Anybody had any problems with the Y580 wireless? I just received my Y580 but have not been able to connect to any of the wireless networks. So I can see all the wifi networks near my house including my own but it won't connect to them successfully no matter what. It keeps connecting and disconnecting nonstop and I've tried connecting to 5-6 different networks around and it has this problem with ALL of them. I've tried downloading the drivers from the support page and installed them but it still fails to connect. Should I RMA/send it back for service or something? Thanks

I just recieved my Y580 yesterday and I was a little disappointed with my wifi reception in comparison with my 4yr old MSI i was replacing. I'm interested in what may be the issue. This notebook doesn't offer an external SMA antenna port like my old notebook, but i never had to use it to get great reception.

I had the same problem but then I installed different new driver from intel web site
I have downloaded the last file. It should solve your problem.

If you have problems after installing the new driver, remove the Mcafee Internet Security.
Especially, if the connection to the home router seems to take an excessive amount of time to connect at start-up.

I had no problems with wireless..until Mcafee Internet Security decided to do an update and i was forced to reboot. After that it gave limited connection. The problem is the firewall in Mcafee. U can select to deactivate it, but the stubborn one activates itself after reboot. The only solution i found is removal of the total Mcafee Internet Security package.
It takes aprox. 10 seconds now to initialize the wireless part. I'm not sure if that's a normal timeframe, since i only use wired on my desktop.

drekx,
I received my y580 recently and this is exactly what's happening to me also.
My home network has no problems, any laptop that comes into our house can connect to it, as do cellphones and tablets. This Y580 however, cannot. It can see the networks but right before establishing full connection, it starts over with error messages. I have read nearly every thread here and done everything I could find on the internet, but to no avail.
I've tried:
- updating drivers from Lenovo and intel
- removing McAfee (already did that right out of the box)
- fn + f5 to check if wifi is on (it is)
- check if i have Lenovo ReadyComm and uninstall it (I don't have readycomm)
- unplugging, replugging router
- changing power management to stop shutting down wifi to save power (problem isn't wifi is turning off, it just won't connect)
- tried the solution in the thread to no avail
What else? A lot more but can't think off the top of my head but I've spent a whole day trying to fix this.
Strangely though, I sometimes am able to connect to my network, with really fast speeds. But as quick as that happens, I get disconnected and will be unable to connect for the rest of the day.
My theory is that I need to change some settings on my y580 wireless/internet settings. It can never negotiate and authenticate my connection (except for two rare occasions). Also, what I do know is that the wireless is in fact enabled, as I am able to search and attempt to join networks.
I'm actually really stressed out about this. I pay $1000+ for a laptop only to troubleshoot it.

I agree. Very dissapointed with Y580 wireless performance. My girlfriend's 4 year old laptop has better WiFi reception than the Y580...
