Y460P : Fan permanently in high gear

Previously, the fan would be completely silent unless i ran an intensive application (e.g. a game). Now, whenever i start up windows, the fan kicks into high gear within a few minutes even if i am not running anything intensive. It's loud enough to create a persistent noise.

I took off the back panel so that i could clean some dust out of the grills that might have been blocking the fan intake, but i don't see any difference afterwards, the fan is still noisy after a startup.

Laptop feels cold to the touch as well.

Any ideas? The laptop no longer has warranty.

Hi Question,

try by cleaning the cooling system thoroughly, not only the air intake...

maybe the fan itself has noisy worn-out bearings and need replacement...

Re: Y460P : Fan permanently in high gear

I updated to the latest version of BIOS and it appears to be much better. The fan actually does lower in volume now. I guess it was the BIOS settings that control the fan speed...
