Y510 warranty registration problem

I have bought a Y510, but cannot get it registered online.  On the line where you are to imput the "Type/Model number", I cannot get anything to work....it always comes back as "wrong model".  Has anyone else had this problem, or instruct me where to find the correct info?  I have used the numbers provided on the computer ID label, and even the numbers provided on the label pasted on the box.....nothing works!

Welcome to the forum!

I've never bothered to register a ThinkPad.  Do the ideaPads require registration to activate the warranty or something?

Re: Y510 warranty registration problem

I could not find anything in my paperwork that came with the laptop, so I emailed Lenovo to inquire. They sent me the following address to register, but I cannot get anything to work in the "Type/Model number" box!  Here is the address that they sent me to register:  http://www.pc.ibm.com/cgi-bin/iReg.cgi
May not have to register it, and it may not be in the system to do so.  I was able to go to the support page and insert my S/N, and that brought up some info on my laptop.  I even used the model number that was given on that page, but nothing works!
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Y510 warranty registration problem

GOT IT!!!!  What you insert in the "Type/Model number" field is "Ideapad".  There are no numbers or anything, just that word.  I think this is the worst description I have ever had to register a product online.  I have used every number, name combinaton, on the laptop and box label.....turns out all it requires is "Ideapad".   Maybe this will help someone else down the road.  Thanks again for your reply earlier.

Well, I have to agree as it would never have occurred to me to try that!  Thanks for coming back with the solution - I'm sure someone else will run into it as well.

Re: Y510 warranty registration problem

No problem....glad it helped!  I love the laptop so far (2 days old), but the customer service has not been very impressive.  I sent them a email requesting help on this problem, and they replied that it was not a technical problem!  It took me a good while to figure out what to put in that box that they created.....I think they made it technical!:smileyvery-happy:  At least they could have passed my request on to someone who could have answered.  Of course, I realize I am emailing India....that is another story!
Good luck with your laptop!

Re: Y510 warranty registration problem

Well, that was good timing that pencilman had just posted the solution to this!

Welcome to the forum - we have a small but growing group of ideaPad users here - stick around and share your knowledge!  (I saw one in an Office Depot this week - does that count??)

Re: Y510 warranty registration problem

Pencilman,

Sorry for the confusion. :smileysurprised:

There is a separate Consumer products registration page found HERE

This would be applicable for the Y410, Y510, Y710, U110 notebook models and the K100 desktops.

The address sent to you would be for Thinkpads, Lenovo 3000 systems of the N, C, and V series, ThinkCentre desktops.

Thanks for noting this for us....

We will work to update the sites to be more clear and to aid customers in registering their systems appropriately.

Best regards :smileyhappy:
