Y550 Fan Noise

A few days ago the fan in my 2 year old ideapad y550 started to make excessive noise.  It seems that it may be getting worse and, given that it has never been this loud, i am pretty sure it means something is breaking or broken.  Does anyone know any good methods of troubleshooting for a computer fan or should i take it in?  

The computer has never been dropped or mistreated in any way.  The most punishment it goes through is being carried around daily in my backpack.  But i am always careful with it.

lol I came to the forum after a while right now to post the same exact thing with the same exact model. This thing sounds like a freaking diesel truck!  Been like this for several days.

Are these made to die at a certain time? because this is weird we are both here.

check download page for bios update, bios update may solve your issue but due to it's been over two years, you may need to replace it.

Yeah, i'v tried cleaning it out.  Doesn't seem to work too well.  I'll try the BIOS update.

 I just opened it up the back panel and started the laptop. It seems the fan has a very slight movement up/down. It's very faint but I can slightly feel it when touching it. Fan might need replacing but I still have to do the bios update. 

 Been hesitant since I have a dual boot with win7 and mint and wanted to make sure i had backups of both systems just in case.

Well, let me share some advice, because it was a living "heck" trying to find a replacement.

There are no FRUs on this part, so nobody within Lenovo / IBM was able to find the part from me. I resorted to eBay, and got the same one as this one:

It was really easy to swap out. My fan vibrated because I dropped it once. The new one is dead silent. I even looked to see if I could fix the original, but it is not repairable.

I actually wrote the numbers on the fan down to search later. That would've been pointless lol. thanks again dude.
