Re: Y550P Blue Screen problems

The BSOD is related to the Gbit NIC onboard. Disable it in the Device Manager and you should be fine.

Which one? Mine? I'll try that. In the future, please quote the post you're replying to to avoid confusion. Thanks for your help!

Re: Y550P Blue Screen problems

Oh boy here we go again......

I did the OneKey recovery which 2 of the Lenovo tech support people insisted upon and guess what... BLUE SCREEN right upon the second startup after OneKey clean wipe to factory image. And here I was wondering how id get my applications back >.<

According to the third Lenovo support person (who is reasonable and helpful and actually listens instead of yelling: Do OneKey!, so Thank You) when there is the system dump (memory .dmp file) ram thingy on the BS error message that means its a RAM or Motherboard problem. And now even though i have my Extended OnSite warranty I have to bring it in cos it ain registered in time >.<

They Keep On asking abt RAM upgrade (especially the first two who couldnt help me). For God's sakes it came with 4GB and its sold with 4GB and we know what RAM is. Just need my less-than-two week old computer fixed !!!!!

Re: Y550P Blue Screen problems

I asked Lenovo what my options are with the BSOD issue. I was told I could call the post-sales department 866-428-4465 because I've only had the laptop for less than 21 days. They'll allow me to return or replace the laptop. I'm making up my mind this weekend.

Re: Y550P Blue Screen problems

Okay, after combing through memory dumps and checking things on Microsoft TechNet, it would appear that my particular blue screen problem was caused by the Zone Alarm firewall.

Remember, this only applies to Windows 7 x64, bluescreen in the kernel module NETIO.SYS.

Error code 0x7f (UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP), 0x8 (Double fault)

After uninstalling ZoneAlarm, so far I haven't had any more blue screens. I recommend Comodo Internet Security instead.

Do these codes mean anything? Gave them to Lenovo support but they couldnt help me. I get them after I did OneKey. Could it be the programs that came with the Y550P that is causing them, and hence meaning I'm eternally screwed?

Re: Y550P Blue Screen problems

Those error codes mean you either have bad RAM, or a driver/software problem. If you post a file from C:\Windows\Minidump I might be able to help a little more.

Try running the windows memory test utility, either from a windows CD or by pressing F8 during windows startup.

Re: Y550P Blue Screen problems

Can't immediately post the dmp file. Wish I could open it though.

The Lenovo guy suggested faulty RAM. When you mention software/driver problems, which I believe is not related to RAM much at all (by no means am I a computer pro lol), so the problem is so tricky cos it can vary so widely.

Since I did the OneKey and it BSODed after, would that mean the problem is the Factory Base Image of OneKey? Also it runs VERY HOT some of the time, especially during the time when it lags Very Badly.

When its okay, it's not hot. And this isn't during gaming. Hell, games wud kill this mofo at this stage.

Wonder if they can reset the image. All that there is in the image is Original setting version of Win7, McAfee, Lenovo programs, that's all, with WebCam + SlideNav drivers preloaded.

Hence if I LOST the image or it was changed it won't matter correct?

Also, I tried System Restore (before trying OneKey). Odd, after System Restore, things got a little screwed up. Web Cam disappeared (drivers or program error), could not be run. But I didn't even do anything to it before/after Restore, so go figure. Also, some other progs got messed up. Media Show, Burner, stayed on.

Thanks for ur opinions / help.

Re: Y550P Blue Screen problems

Kashing I never had such varied BCCode errors as you have and definitely not after OneKey restore. I always had the BCCode 7F which seems to have been caused by ZoneAlarm. I suspected it wasn't a memory issue with mine because I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool and found nothing wrong. Also my laptop doesn't get that hot. From what you're describing it sounds like you have at least one hardware issue.
