Hi everyone,
I recently purchased the new lenovo Y580 laptop, and I have a question that I have not been able to find the answer to. I was wondering what the connection speed for the mSATA slot is. I know that the normal SATA hard drive connection is 3gb/s, but I was hoping that the mSATA port is 6gb/s, which makes a big difference for SSD's. If anyone can answer this question I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Taylor

Thank you very much for the help yigit. I was also wondering if there was an online version of the manual you are talking about, because my laptop didn't even come with one... If you could post the link, that would be great!
thanks again,
Taylor

Hi Taylor
This is the link to the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the Y480/580.
Hope this helped.

Yes ... I installed a SandForce controller base SATA III SSD in my Y580 and it is operating in 6G mode. When I put the same mSATA SSD card in my Y560 I get SATA II 3G speeds.
I use mSATA for OS and 500GB/7200 HDD for data. Super fast boot and program load times.
Here are CrystalDiskMark numbers for SATA III mode in Y580
466.2 189.6
391.9 186.0
30.27 73.54
124.0 181.7
and here are numbers when the same SSD is installed in Y560 at SATA II mode
249.8 185.6
224.1 182.1
14.23 24.15
125.0 173.0
I think Y480 should give similar results.

Which SSD did you use? You have your system set up just like I would like to set up mine.

I used MyDigitalSSD 128GB mSATA - SandForce controller based.
