Hi folks.
I'm new to the forums and to Lenovo products. I just purchased a new Z565 and so far, I love it.
I do have working knowledge computers having built a few machines now but i am fairly new to notebooks having only owned one previous to this. I have taken the time to ensure Windows is fully updated. (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) and have updated Catalyst software suite to the current version.
One problem I am having is with the optical cd/dvd drive that comes stock with this unit. When I play a commercial DVD, the drive seems to irratically speed up and slow down. Every time it speeds up from the slowdown state, the dvd playback is paused briefly and seems to have to "catch up" the scene its trying to play.
Another problem is when I playback a video data file from a burned DVD, The reading mechanism seems to be loudly jumping back and forth as if it were trying to read from the begining to the end of the disk very rapidly. The actual playback of the file is not effected but the noise is unacceptable not to mention the strain on the mechanism can't be good.
Third and final problem is DVD playback in Windows Media Player 11. This seems to be common for alot of people and I worked around it with a third party codec/player package but DVDs will still not playback properly in WMP. Green artifacts pixelate the image. Sound is uneffected.
Any help with these issues would be greaty appreciated.
Thanks in advance. ![]()

If there is no normal way to fix it in windows then I'll just do without and file it under: "My experience with Lenovo notebooks". ![]()
Thank you for responding.

I am experiencing optical drive problems on the IdeaPad Z565.
Read seems to work. But a perfect write fails.
Here is a procedure I use to test the DVD drive:
